Hey Pablo, I hope you have a great day. Finaly a Blender Add on platform is coming and I realy like that. there will be some guidelines/requirements for an Add on to be featured, but will there also be guidelines for UI Design? There are many awesome Blender Addons out there, that have a horrible UI Design. I think at least some basic requirements should be implemented there in order to also improve Addon UI design to be closer to Blenders great UI Design.

This. but sadly it will be hard to enforce. addons by nature aren't standard, and part of what makes them powerful is that they aren't beholden to the style guide. I agree, many addons would do very well if they weren't a huge menu totally inside the 3d viewport, only an operator menu, etc.

Yes, that is true, but I also mean gigantic buttons, unclear descriptions, long texts in the UI, double colon layouts and just everything that is clearly off from standard Blender UI design. Requirements could force devs to care about design

Hi Pablo, I hope you are well. I've been using Blender for almost 4 years (and contributing to the Blender fund and cloud the whole time) now and there is one thing I've been hoping that comes to blender and that is occlusion selection. Right now, the workflow for selecting backfacing components forces you to switch to wireframe or xray and that is a really awful bottleneck in worflow. I've been using a few addons/scripts that allow you to use a lasso selection and toggle into a temporary X-ray mode to see the backfacing elements and make your selection. Once you let go of the mouse, xray is automatically turned off. The problem is these scripts/addons break with new releases of Blender and it takes someone offering a band-aid to get it working again. This has been ignored or brushed off by a few different Blender developers and I'm really hoping at some point that Blender sees the problem with the current way of selecting. Really hoping for a native solution, maybe even an option in preferences that gives people the ability to select occluded elements without switching to wireframe or xray mode.

you should be able to simply right click (select) to cycle through every object under the cursor, regardless of view mode. (unless they're invisible or select-disabled.) if you cannot, that's a bug!

Steve

That only applies to objects, not to points, polygons or edges in edit mode.

nubnubbud

good distinction, but I think that might simply be a limitation of 3D in general. at the very least it should be an option with a UI selector.

Its not. Modo, Maya, XSI and others do it.

That's a really good one Steve. Coming from Maya, I'm somewhat annoyed of the switching back and forth in component (edit) mode in Blender too. Houdini for example has a Laser selection tool which is behaving the same way like the default Blender selection tool in shaded (non transparent/x-ray) mode.

Not that it will matter but I'm probably going to bring it up in next week's livestream because Pablo mistakenly thought I was referring to objects when I'm talking about selecting elements in edit mode. Its been a burr in my side since I started using Blender. I've been able to get around it with a few scripts this whole time but they've broken a few times and then I have to look for fixes. I probably need to get more into python so I can do it myself. In the end, its probably what I'm going to have to do.

I hope you have a great day, here are my question, can you tell me way you can't use texture with a multires modifier in sculpt mode?

Bug report: T63581

This did work in Blender 2.79.

Hi Pablo, So speaking about cycles, is there a plan to add OutOfCore mode to cycles? Somekind of Low Memory Usage Mode or Reserve Memory Mode. Or maybe even Memory Limit? Basically a way to make the cycles use less memory when rendering with trade off the rendering speed will be reduced? both for CPU and GPU.

This would be pretty great, and I'd be surprised if it wasn't used in some way already. Texture streaming works pretty well from RAM to GPU, and at the very least, outsourcing textures to cheap RAM would allow INCREDIBLY dense texture detail.

Hi Pablo!!! I hope you are doing great!!!

I want to ask about the future of curve. Is it planned to improve the Edit Mode of curves? I feel like it is left behind, It lacks a lot of features, like vertex chamfer, vertex bevel, rip, g + g to move along the edge, curve boolean, vertex merge, remove doubles...

Thank you for the directs!

Will there be something like a set action, velocity and set velocity node?

Ola Pabloo! Now that physX 5.1 is open source, will it find it's way into Blender? nvidia-omniverse.github.io/PhysX/physx/5.1.0/docs/License.html

What's the haps, Pabs! I recently watched a video by Sir Wade Neistadt where he changed the colors of translate, rotate and scale in Maya's Graph editor. That seems like a super duper simple way of distinguishing between different curves, but I haven't found a way to do the same in Blender.

Would you be cool with separating the colors of axis and mode of translation maybe globally across all of Blender?

nubnubbud

if I'm right, axis colors should be adjustable in color profiles... there's a lot of options to dig through though.

Hi Pablo Hope you doing well, does the fact that Nvidia have open sourced PHYSICS 5.1 will help an integration to blender eventually, even if it's only CPU ? There is already CEB STUDIOS started making a addon for information.

nubnubbud

blender's limited to certain kinds of non-proprietary open source. However, even then, it should be able to become a physics nodes solver with relative ease.
