Wrong side!

Hello everyone I have some thoughts and decided to share them. Perhaps I'm wrong and you will disagree with me.

Blender is getting better and better every year, but the big changes/projects that are constantly announced do not appear. Years pass and some features are still in development or at the design stage and never see the light of day. I understand that this is a development process and it is impossible to realize everything. Therefore, I have a suggestion, which may be wrong. It would be nice if developers focused on one big project until it was finished, like sculpting a feature or something. As for me, many similar projects that constantly appear but are not fully realized take up a lot of time.

I hope the community will accept my post without hate. I wish you all the best and peace.

Development is complicated. Open source development especially, since everything happens transparently (from the announcement to the release) it seems that features take longer than on commercial apps (some definitely do of course, due to budget and other reasons listed below). The truth is that nobody really knows how long commercial apps have been working on a specific feature because most don't share those details.

Related to features:

  • Some features depend on other features to be done first.
  • Some features require high skilled developers that are not available or busy with other areas.
  • Some features look easy, but to be done properly require a huge refactor.
  • Some features need a big-picture design, that aligns with Blender as a whole.
  • Some features are too platform or hardware specific. Blender has to work with a lot of different hardware, so some features can't be added unless they work across the board.

Related to developers:

  • Developers paid by Blender work on bug fixing, and on large strategic projects for Blender, for example introducing Geometry Nodes or Simulation. Those just can't be done by developers from the community on their spare time.
  • Developers from the community can't always take on big tasks, have a day job, and family, they can work on specific features but some need a large design and a lot of time and dedication.

Yes, Pablo totally agrees. I love blender and the developers and the whole community. But sometimes it seems I will never wait for some features((( Sorry about that.

You should edit the post and mention some of those features you say you are looking forward to. Maybe some are already on their way or a developer sees it and prioritizes them. It's open source, anyone can see and contribute it even if they don't work for Blender and are busy with other stuff.

Do you really believe that blender developers not have good reasons to set the sequence of priorities that they identify as logical.

Is this a question? I understand why this is being done. But do you understand why?
