Is it possible to use "Quadro RTX 4000" or "RTX 2080" on a PCIe 2.0 with i7 2600?
Hi friends,
I am new here. I am in a situation to buy a new computer without graphics card or buy a good graphics card but use it in a old computer with Intel i7 2600 Processor. I will never be using this for gaming. It is purely for Krita, Blender, GODOT and Graphics works.
My questions are
- Which Graphics card to buy, "Quadro RTX 4000" or "RTX 2080 Super" ?
- Does "any of these above graphics cards" Work on a PCIe 2.0 Motherboard with i7 2600 Processor? (Intel DH67CL Mother board)
Thanks in advance friends

RTX 2070 Super is a better deal than the 2080 Super. Buy that now, then save up for a new CPU (and related hardware) for later. I'm also building a new machine right now, I have also had an i7-2600 (2600K, actually) and I'm finally going for the upgrade. I also just bought a 2070 Super, because the 2080 Super is only a marginal improvement for significantly more money. Save the $200 and put that toward a new machine in a year or so when you can save up for it. The CPU won't make nearly as big of a difference compared to the GPU upgrade, so go for the new GPU over a new CPU.
* @keavon * Thank you very much friend, Is there a better alternative In AMD for Nvidia 2070 Super?
* @keavon * Does the RTX2070 Super support NVLink with RAM addition?
* @Bharat * Not really, AMD has been lagging behind NVidia for quite a while on the high-end. For now the 2070 super would be the best choice..
* @Juan Gea Rodriguez * No, the NVLink on GeForce cards is not the same as on Quadro's and doesn't support VRAM sharing. I guess it works more like High bandwith SLI than actual NVLink...
* @Johan Aantjes * As far as I can see, yes, the RTX2070 Super supports memory pooling.
Here you have an article from an awesome expert in the industry, Vlado :)
chaosgroup.com/blog/profiling-the-nvidia-rtx-cards
* @Juan Gea Rodriguez * Memory pooling works, but as said in the article, the cards show identical memory usage, so 2 cards in NVlink won't give you 16GB of Vram, for that you need a quadro or a tesla..
* @Johan Aantjes * because each card has it's own memory amount, in the article it also says that NVlink allows them to render much bigger scenes:
Today, the new RTX 2080 cards provide better performance than the previous GTX 1080 cards with V-Ray GPU and the new inclusion of NVLink makes it possible to render much larger scenes with just a small performance impact. And it says that both cards showing identical memory usage is an error, a bug from Nvidia part, but it works:
Nvidia-smi tool shows incorrect identical memory usage on both cards when SLI is enabled. And that they can share memory:
In addition to the RT Cores, the new RTX cards also support NVLink, which gives V-Ray GPU the ability to share the memory between two GPUs* @Johan Aantjes * Thanks for clarifying :)
