I take back what I said. Cycles is one of the greatest render engines in the industry! I just had to learn the secrets more.
Hello guys. I would like to take back the majority of what I have said regarding cycles render. Recently I was trying to show how blender is so far behind of all render engines but I was wrong. Significantly wrong.
I failed to study more about cycles render engines settings. All I thought was almost all the defaults are already fine when it come to path tracing. I was always wondering if there is some kind of advanced settings that I could tweak in order to discover more of cycles' hidden potential. And my curiousity haven't failed me. I forgot one of the most important drop fown menu in blender's ui. That is the branched path tracing.
I have always wondered why I keep noticing that luxrender always has a better gradient shading and also has a better sense of depth in it renders. I tried to research how luxrender engine works and it is via bidirectional path tracing. With that small information, I concluded how good it was and blender's cycles engine is just not that good compared to other render engines when it comes to rendering real world/realistic results. All of this was incomplete and I failed to study the additional option in cycles which is the branched path tracing. This is what I highly consider a game changer to those artists who are not just interested in stylized but also in realism. When enabled, the results are just stunning, it felt like you are using vray or octane. Renders are obviously more on the side of realism and the renders are less noisy. I am not entirely sure but it feels like the viewport and final render feels a little faster.
Again I would like to express my full gratitude and respect to all the blender team. Thank you for all the work put in to this software.

cool I was trying to find out what branched does, can you do a comparison or something to expand on the subject?
* @kresimir.jelusic * I will try. Just keep in mind that thosr numbers are multipliers. Say you have the main render samples at 64. If you set the glossy to 2, the output would result into 128 samples for the glossy specifically.
