Hi Pablo, nice to see that there are two technical artists added to the Compositor module! This is one of my highlights today!

Hi Pablo, I hope the Amsterdam ice and snow fever didn't get to you. ;-)

With all the volume features showing up lately (modifiers, geometry nodes, new volume object type), I was wondering if you knew a way to use a volume object as a texture. Just like an 2d image texture - but volumetric. {attachment volumetexturepng}

Have a great day and happy spammer hunting, Helge

* @Helge * not sure if you mean procedural textures. These are actually 3d or can be used/mapped 3d docs.blender.org/manual/fr/2.79/render/blender_render/textures/types/procedural/introduction.html

* @romboutv * I guess, I should have been more clear about the type of volume. ;-)

Actually, I was looking for a way to use a real volume as a texture. I'm using procedural textures all the time and really like the flexibility and the fact that I don't need to think about UV unwrapping when using these. However, procedural textures are limited to their algorithm which made me think about non-procedural ones (e.g. baked procedural, manually created, simulated, ct scans,...).

In the end, it boils down to the question: Can a volume be used as a texture-source? {attachment texturesourcespng} And so far, I haven't found a way.

Hola Pablo, I just wanted to mention that I recently released another addon, called Blender Project Manager. It can be found on Gumroad and Github and BlenderMarket . Donations are always appreciated :). The addon allows you to set up (Folder Structure) and manage (keep track of, rearrange) Blender Projects. I hope you like it!

Greetings,
Blender Defender

Hey Pablo, almost time for 2.92 already, that's crazy!

I was wondering do you know if anything is happening with: developer.blender.org/D7993

Also I saw on developer.blender that you had suggested in a post having shorter attribute names for geometry nodes. Position = P Rotation = R Normal = N Stuff like that, what was the teams opinion on that? Personally I like it short, but for people new to this it doesn't really help them know what it is.

Hey Pablo, I think I asked a while ago when Geo Nodes were more in their infant stages... but now development is ramping up I was wondering if there had been any talks about implementing a C-based API to give users the opportunity to customise the creation of attributes, adding functionality, or implementing custom new nodes, similar to, say, the VEX language in H*udini? :) From following the Geo Nodes Devtalk thread I've seen a lot of interest of a usable C-based API, compared to Python, due to the speed when dealing with many points or instances (and multithreading, etc)?

Really excited for the future of everything nodes, a massive congrats to the team! :)

Hello Pablo, i love the show every week. It keeps me engaded with all of the new features, tips and techniques of how to get the most out of this amazing software. I have been ising blender since version 2.8 so not that long. I learned 3d modeling in softimage 3d. When the software was upgraded to softimage xsi it introduced the concept of softimage XSI's ICE system. Which were Nodes that were used to control different effects and geometry throughout the software. I don't know how familiar you are with softimage ICE but do you think this is a fare comparison to the everything nodes project in blender.

I have been away from 3d software for many years but blender has brought that joy back. Thanks again and keep up the amazing work

Hi Pablo! Would be awesome to have in Blender level of detail system (LOD) for massive of objects especially on the wave of Geometry Nodes.

Hi Pablo, I hope all is well !

Is there a way to select the hierarchy of several selected objects in the current versions, or is it planned ? I couldn't find a way in 2.91.

Thank you ! :)

romboutv

* @AtomikSamurai * well depends on how its made. If you mean like a parented hierachy, then yes, use ] iwards or [ outwards. shift shift + ] to add or subtract to selection. EDIT shift + [ doesnt subtract from the selection though, it will aswell add to the selection

Hi Pablo, I wanted to ask 2 questions: What happened to the Retopology Overlay Task? Has it been cancelled or delayed? Is the developer who was originally workig on it going to continue developing it or will it be developed by someone else? developer.blender.org/D5919

Have you checked out this addon which brings the Jeremy HU's Autoremesher into Blender? What do you think of the results it provides? github.com/Nicolas-Constanty/AutoRemesher-Blender

Several questions this week! I'll ask them seperately... :) I'm thinking of putting together a proposal for some improvements to the Group Nodes UI and customisation options, but with Geo Nodes development ramping up, will the design of nodes as a whole be likely to change anytime soon (making such a proposal obsolete)?

Awesome vid yet again Pablo. They have become my monday comfort routine. Lean back relax with coffee and cookies :)

I wonder if there are any fracture systems in the works using geo nodes ?

Hello,

apologies for the newbie question. I would like to post a question to be answered during the Blender Today live stream, but I am living in Melbourne and the stream is cast a 3am here.

Is there any topic, forum, a conversation where I can leave the question a few hours or days before Pablo starts his stream?.

ShapeDemBricksRBX

Hey Pablo, are there any plans on UV-editor improvements? :) Hope you guys are doing well during these trying times! I made the suggestion here: blender.community/c/rightclickselect/9sfbbc/

I have asked this before but I don't know if an answer was provided. Thanks! :)

Also, a complete side-note: is it possible to allow usage of F2 (rename) on the Collections as well? Right now it only works with objects I think.

ghasemmollahasani

Hi Pablo, At this moment shape keys in blender are not as a target! Is there any way to use shape keys as a target or developer have any plan about it?

Hi, Pablissimo! I often struggle to remember - in what order these things: 3D render result, Compositor result, VSE-inputs/result, camera background-images, 2D drawing result and so on... are interconnected. So, is there a hope, that in v3.0 we could connect any of these things in order we need?

P.S. Performance everywhere is great, but I think the new ColorPicker is way toooo fast always running away;)

HI Pablo, Amazing Show! Iam a little confused using Geometry Node, coming from Shading nodes. Cause in Shader nodes you alway have the input left und the output right. But in Geometry nodes are somehow mixed.

Example: For Channing Attributes you have to type the result attribute in input. But on the other hand, for shading nodes you would have the Attribute as an output.

So my question: does this design will be implemented in Shading Nodes aswell, to make it more consistent or will Geometry Nodes Base design still change?

Zelfor

Hi Pablo

First I would like to thank the entire Blender team! You are doing a wonderful job! (Applause !!! 👋👋👋)

My question is: It would be possible to have the same dynamics of visualization as 3D Cursor and Origins (Viewport Overlays) in Sculpture Mode as well as in Object Mode?

Hi Pablo, Got a question is Animation Viewport Playback Speed will be adressed anytime soon? I noticed that it very quickly gets very slow even under 20 fps, which results in a hard time for animators. Especially when wanting to move over to Blender from another DCC which handles animation much better at times.

Sometimes I also noticed that Blender rarely even uses half of the available power the hardware has, during sculpting highpolygonal meshes and during animation playback especially.

Ideas for blender 3.0

1.it would help a lot if blender could somehow integrate open CL 1.2 or radeon pro renderer, it very hard for macbook user and amd graphics card users.

  1. And can blender add node wrangler, loop tools, import images as planes and other imp addon as inbuild features.
blenderguy359

Hello again Pablo, I have a question on geometry nodes. Do you know what would be next step of them, Simulation nodes. Modifiers, ANIMATION?!!

Happy Monday, Pablo! Will Blender ever include a way to visualize the path of a camera ray, glossy ray, etc.? It's would really help when developing a glass/transmissive shader because Blender's node wrangler only displays whats happening on the surface and not inside. Here's a mock up:

drive.google.com/file/d/1VdGe6orOHYaoDAT8L9RXNObxUyfR5tRa/view

Thanks, you're the best! -Tim

romboutv

* @timothy.m * i doubt that, i mean its not a single ray shooting out, its 1000s i guess even more rays shooting out. It would be an explosion of rays going all over the place. You do know that for instane rays inside a glass object bounce around inside as well. How would it be useful because i think you would end up with an image which is fully colored by one big blob of rays. Basically filling with a single color that many rays would be visible

Hello Pablo, I found an issue with nishita sky in blender 2.92, when rendering in GPU+CPU mode (optix and cuda) and using denoising data, there are these square pattern (as big as the tile size), when I use HDRI, the pattern disappear

brandon3D

Hey Pablo :) Any updates in retopology and if not don't you think it should be a little more of a priority considering we don't even have the basic milestone started? what's your opinion on this?

augusto.c.felix

Hi Pablo, hope you are doing well and fine during this pandemic thing. Be safe man. I have 2 questions:

  • Why there's is no plane primitive on the new add primitive tool? A plane is a good base to start with the blocking process, so would be good the have it in this new tool.
  • And second question: Why there is no dispersion slider in the glass shader on Cycles. Glass in cycles is tricky and not intuitive in most of the cases. In eevee is in fact a nightmare (too many buttons to turn on just to make glass look like a glass).

And also... no dispersion option built-in. Is possible to add that feature in the future?

Hexbob6

When adding non-destructive primitives is supported in geometry nodes, do you think there'll be a new option to add an empty 'geometry nodes object' from the shift+a menu (similar to the volume or simulation objects)?

cooreets

Any chance of getting the xbox controller support for navigating the viewport?

vfxwolf

Hey Pablo, great stuff, love the shows! Was wondering if you could give us an update on what's happening with Selective Light Linking in Blender

mcurt009

Hi Pablo, hope you're enjoying the snow, it looked beautiful over there. The task for fixing the undo of paint settings was marked as resolved even though it remains an issue in latest releases developer.blender.org/T71759 . Bastien recently requested that people stop adding their reports of the issue to the task and instead create a new task. For me, this is the single biggest issue keeping Blender from being a comfortable production sculpting tool (along with high-poly editing). I'm curious why this problem is so difficult to solve and why it isn't being considered bigger priority. I'm sure an explanation of the difficulties of solving this would help the community understand why it is still open after years. Thanks!
