PHENIX-GPU simulation

Big GPU optimization milestone for Phenix last night.

I pushed the new GPU pipeline pretty hard and the results are honestly super encouraging. I managed to run up to 60K particles in real time with complex collisions + boid behaviors… on my MacBook M1 with only 8GB unified memory.

It’s starting to really deliver on the performance promises.

Compared to the previous CPU implementation, some core systems heavily used by Phenix — especially spatial search and collision processing — are now reaching speedups above 100x in certain scenarios.

I’m thinking about sharing a test version during the demo preparation period, and maybe doing regular YouTube live sessions to show the new features and experiments. There are already some crazy combinations to explore, and it’s genuinely super fun to play with.

I’m still a bit hesitant about releasing an in-between version, but it could be a great opportunity to integrate your feedback early before the official release.
