Outliner shows selection
Perhaps a paper cut, but I would like to see that when I select an object in the Viewport, it is also shown in the Outliner. To save scrolling the outliner in large files and faster than the search bar in many cases.

I have been working on a scene which is quite complex with animated heirarchies, and even with using the period key I still have to scroll both vertically, and across to the right some ways to locate the object. This can happen easily dozens of times while checking linked components and is just a chore. I would like to click on the object in the viewport and see where it is in the outliner automatically. Would be a huge benefit.
Also an option to auto focus to the selected object in the outliner to save constant time wasting scrolling would be a relief.
If you hover over the outliner and press the period key, Blender will scroll to the selected object. Is that what you mean?
Yep…that's what I meant. Can't say that the mouse over and hover are desirable or necessary though.
But thanks for the tip!
