The only correct answer of course is: it depends. First of all it's a highly subjective thing, plus it's relative to your needs, the hardware you have, the kind of stuff you want to accomplish, the sort of requirements you have in terms of user interface, configurability, etc. For what it's worth, VFX studios used to rely heavily on CentOS, which now has unfortunately been discontinued. There's a few distros that have stepped in apparently, like Rocky Linux, no idea how well they compare though.

I think it certainly depends on the hardware.

For example, on a quite limited hardware (was my case a few months ago), I found out Linux Mint "MATE" (a light and stable middle term distro between more lightweight Mint "Vanessa" and more robust Mint "Cinnamon") was a really optimal option!

Now that I've got a new PC, and it came with Windows 11 (...), I didn't make dual partition yet; but I was already planning this time for Mint "Cinnamon", because of my so positive experience with the stability and the friendly interface of Mint "MATE".

Though, many, many years later, I was just satisfied with using Blender on the main Ubuntu distros. But then, as I kept updating year by year, Gnome started to get too heavy as my PC got older, it forced me to look for an alternative. I tried Mint "Vanessa", but wasn't satisfied; this is when I've found out about Mint "MATE".
