New rock superband O.R.k. video made in Blender

youtu.be/GtNCHPJQw9Y
O.R.k. is a band by seasoned rock musicians Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari: vocals, keys (Obake, Berserk!) Carmelo Pipitone: guitars (Marta Sui Tubi) Colin Edwin: bass (Porcupine Tree) Pat Mastelotto: drums (King Crimson). The album has been self produced and self-distributed via the MusicRaiser platform. In the spirit of DIY they made a promotional video themselves using Blender.I had a conversation with the singer, which produced the video with the help of illustrator Nanà "Oktopus" Dalla Porta, and he revealed me that he had learnt the basics of Blender in a month or so, thanks to the large amount of tutorials and information by the community. The rest is hard work and a lot of ingenuity.Adobe After Effects has been used for color grading and some post production effects, but the core of the work has been made in the open source software. He admits:It's the first time I try to make an animated video. I understand the result is somewhat rough, but we like the gloomy feel and in the end it fits the music very well, which is the most important thing. Of course, a lot of credits should be given to the professional illustrations made by Nanà Dalla Porta and we owe a lot to the Blender software and community for making this possible.I asked Lorenzo how he felt about the Blender learning curve. As a musician and record producer, my head is already filled with a lot of obscure keyboard shortcuts and adjustment curves from my favourite music software. Blender may seem scary at first, but in the end everything is organised in a very logical way and if one is determined to learn, she eventually will. It's been a fun project.
