Grease pencil - Boolean in Draw mode
Hello everyone! I would like to contribute some ideas to improve the Grease pencil.
Improve Eraser:
Eraser tool in Grease pencil seems to work with stroke only. Sometimes, I want to delete some extra area and still keep a continuity of stroke. Therefore, I recommend the Eraser tool should also have the ability to affect on fill area (similar to Boolean difference)
New option for brush:
Filling color by brush in Grease Pencil is not natural to me. It’s like Photoshop’s lasso tool somehow. Moreover, if you want to expand the fill area after using the Fill tool, you must change to sculpt mode or adding more same color fill area overlap (This wastes computer computing costs). An option allows users to use stroke shapes as fill area and overlapping stroke areas calculated same as Boolean Union will be very helpful in this case.

Eraser
and
Blob brush
(adobe illustrator).
I am not a developer, so sorry if my suggestion is impossible.

who DOESN'T need this. seriously?
I can only up-vote this once, dammit! :-)
I made an account to suggest this very thing, but of course it's already here. Illustrator has a very nice blob-brush tool, Adobe Animate of course has it. This would make 2D fills much much less painful.
Hi, I made an experimental addon that works almost like this your proposal. Grab it here : github.com/Pullusb/GP_brush_fill There are some limitations for now, read the readme documentation to check. (Note that you need to install external modules to try it out)
Hello. May I ask about the current status of this proposal? I saw it marked "In Development", but cannot find related pages at developer.blender.org/ . I will greatly appreciate it if someone can tell me where to find related information.
Recently, I had my own attempts importing Pyclipper to perform Boolean operations on GPencil strokes. I have made some progresses achieveing several functions mentioned in this proposal. I may release an add-on later in this month if things go well. But anyway it would be helpful for me to learn more about similar approaches.
This is my add-on , and I also made a demo video . With the Clipper library, it appears most operations mentioned in the proposal are achievable, except the hole, for which the user should manually assign a material with holdout. Please feel free to leave feedback if you are interested.
Yeeeeeeessss! THis!!!!
Ah this is one of the MUST HAVE for Grease Pencil...
That's a whole other level of usability. I hope it's possible.
Flash for all it's faults had a great tool called the Brush, which givea really great results. Essentially what it does is paint pixels (no AA or blending) with pressure, etc., then on mouse release it would vectorize the pixels to bezier curves(GP could then sample to points. Grease pencil could really benefit from this feature.
Note: It is VERY similar to OPs brush proposal, but it gives better results IMO.
youtube.com/watch You can kind of see the results in this video.
Still no news about it ?
does anyone know if this feature is still in development? or is it a false hope?
This is amazing post! This is the future!
Could you edit your post and rmove the ( ) in the title ? It seems to be disturbing the search engine when asking "greas pencil".
* @-L0Lock- * Wow - It looks like search only looks from the beginning of the title. "Boolean" sorted by rating has this up the top. You might want to send the page admins an email to see if they can fix it!
please share it up on twitter again! :D
It would be great to use these Bool functions on a GP layer then use the GP layer as an active mask on 3D objects, that should be possible in the compositor so these extra functions are a great idea!
Great improvement!!! :D
Hell Yeahrrrrr
So 7 years later they've added holes for GP fills, fingers crossed that allows to implement this? Finally?
Please add this!
Definitely something I'm missing. Can't wait to have this implemented.
Thank you for having best illustrated my proposal, I see that it is under development! I'm very happy!
I can't agree more.
So happy this is 'in development'! game changer and matches my process in other apps a lot more .
This has pretty much been added. There's the new cutter brush.
* @dpdpforlife * what do you mean exactly? there's this tool that cuts ends of overlapping lines but it's quite different from the boolean brush idea.
* @chris * That's why I say pretty much. Not exactly the same, but at least you can now get the same effect without having to erase and redraw the original shape.
* @dpdpforlife * yeah... it can get the same results, but you need to make 3 steps (draw line, cut end pieces in two spots) instead of 1 with the boolean eraser. And a lot less intuitive :( But you're right, it's better than nothing! :) Still hoping for the real deal though
Just to be super clear, while the cutter tool is neat. It isn't even close to what is being suggested here and I wouldn't want to promote the idea that it would be a good alternative. It looks like this is still listed as 'in development' so I'm still hopeful it may be added in the future.
it's looks like impossible, because GP doesn't support lines inside lines.
* @Michail Soluyanov * You're right; I think the way greasepencil fills work may also change.
* @CandleComet * in this case it can lack performance
I really hope this will be implemented soon :O
