Tree View modus for Outliner / rigging

Feature_Request.jpg Dear Blender developers, I've been working with Softimage for more than 16 years now and finally found a 3D software worth the effort to learn. Never got friend with Maya and hoped so much that one day a (new) program appeared, clean, stable and logic. With Blender 3 just this happened, love it so much!

One thing though I'm missing: The incredible clean and intuitive way, Softimage displayed parental hierarchies. It's called Schematic View and it shows the hierarchies in a top-to-bottom tree. I can also change parents, define and see (!) constraints connections here.

It's just like the outliner, but much more intuitive for complex parent-child hierarchies! You see every object which is in the outliner.

I know there was a similar thread 3 years ago (found it with the search function here), but not sure if it was a request similar to this. I'm not talking of node-based workflow like Geometry Nodes. Just a simple tree view like shown on my screen shot.

Is this something you are planning to implement in near future? Does this feature makes sense to you? Or how would you keep an overview with a complex rig, or even analyze an unknown rig to fix / change something here? Feature_Request2.jpg

Thanks! Wolfram

You mean like the Oops editor present in the Blender's 2.3x and 2.4x series? This was a complete nightmare with only a few objects in the scene.. but the cool thing is that the devs are thinking about re implementing it in order to help with the overrides dependencies (see this blog post : code.blender.org/2022/02/overrides-workshop/ ) Maybe it will involve more than just the Lib overrides and more of the general scene setup including rigging. {attachment '0XL5' does not exist}

Yeah I did remember there was a plan to implement this somewhere. Hopefully they also take some notes from how other softwares successfully do it.

Hey Shimoon, thanks for the answer! I didn't use Blender before, so I didn't know that there was a similar feature in the 2.3 version. I would be totally fine with just having a graph like above for representing just the hierarchy. So I could distinguish the different bones (FK, IK, Deformation) side-by-side and not invisible on top of each other in the 3D viewport. Or opening hundreds of stacks in the outliner. In Softimage, you could only see the constraints between objects when you clicked on this. This was nice, but not urgently needed if this makes problems. So just a viewer with the option to change parent / child stuff maybe?

Already proposed it time ago, catched poor or less attention. Try upvoting that too:
