"Save Selected" functionality missing?
I was really surprised to see Blender doesn't have any "Save selected" (object(s)) functionality.
What this does in other applications:
It just saves a new (in this case .blend) file with the selected object(s), the same as "Save as" works, but instead of saving the whole scene as a file, it just saves the selected object(s), the materials and animation data, if there is any. The same as selecting everything, inverting your selection and deleting that before saving. Which would be a workaround, but requires a few UNDO steps, which can be tricky at times or just take too long.
Why I think it is useful
In production, it often happens that one artist needs something someone else is currently working on (but may be not entirely done, so it is not in the asset pipeline yet, or there isn't any asset pipeline at all) or you just want to save something without everything else in the scene, for later use, to just have it separately in case something goes wrong or to send it somewhere. Or it may be unpleasant to open the scene (possibly huge) file just to get this one or a few objects out later.
Anyone else interested? :) Shouldn't be that hard to implement, IMO.

Why not append files into a new scene?
* @devorecjd * AFAIK that would mean opening another instance of Blender and opening the scene with the objects in question, then remember what those objects were named and selecting them all. If your scene is bigger and has a lot of objects, this can take a while and be very frustrating and time consuming, since you're not even seeing a thing you select - While a quick selection and press of "Save Selected" while the scene is already open and you work on it anyway is done in about no time.
Maybe I overestimate the use of this, but in other apps this has saved me lots of time on many occasions.
