Extend " Knife Tool " snapping abilities.

For now " Knife Tool " can snap only to vertices/edges that was " on top " of mesh ( ignore all backface elements ) and only to those who belong to this object.

Any one who work on 3DS MAX ( all others can look at youtube ) known how work snapping with " cut " or " quick slice " tools. It snap to any vertex, edge or other element depending on what snap mode is turning on. To its own mesh and to mesh of any other object in scene. .

The way it work so simple and so handy.

Love Blender because of many reasons. But cut something like according to edge of other mesh or edge on opposite site of current mesh requires to do so lot of extra moves which can be all completely reduced to a few clicks in half of second if knife can snap the way it work in MAX.

And it was really annoying thing.. Trained skills to such a level that basic modeling is happening so quickly that it causes shortcuts misclicking . But as soon as it need to cut something - I'm dragging like a tortoise. Duplicate his polygon, move it here .. oh yeah, now you can snap to it or align view to this than select this and now you can cut something you need. It's a mystery to me why the capability of " Knife " snapping is so limited.

Try latest 2.8 builds for now - all work the same as it was in current 2.79 version. So may bee it can be done and include to new cool 2.8 version release?

I see this " extension " as some additional hotkey that turn on and of this option like " cut through " or others and checkbox in settings for turning this on by default.

As always - thanks for reading. Also you can check my other suggestions .

You can use for now "Snap Utilities Line" Addon integrated with Blender :)

I added a proposal too for Knife, blender.community/c/rightclickselect/dGdbbc/

This is really cool feature in 3ds max. I constantly use it in modeling architectural elements. For example, trim the walls along the roof line. Or trim polygons according to the drawing on background. I really want in blender snap to other objects to work in the knife tool and bisect tool.

This is standard feature in every fully functional modelling sw.
