More than 8 Vertex Colors layers in the same model

Is there a reason for the 8 vertex colors layers limit in Blender? I’m working with dynamic makeup on a model and I really need more paint layers to organize my nodes.

Is it easily fixable? It would help me a lot! :)

A possible workaround at the moment would be to combine multiple masks as R, G, and B channels within one layer. Also, if you are using masks, take a look at my proposal for using weight groups to do this. If my proposal was adopted, we could use the incredible weight paint modifiers in shaders.

* @Josephbburg * I bet it's a simple fix... I don't know why the limit exists...

It would be wonderful to see this limitation lifted. If there was no limit to vertex colors, it would allow a workflow of driving all material properties with vertex layers.

There's some progress on bringing a multi-layer vertex paint tool to Blender, and the layer limit is a major hurdle. Link
