Set "Export - Limit to: Selected Objects" as default

This is pretty simple. The option to export only selected objects should be ON as default. Anyone working daily in production must encounter this at least once a day.

a) You have a heavy file opened, you just need to export one tiny asset out of it. You press export and Blender freezes for a few minutes because it's trying to export the whole scene. You either wait without any idea how long it might take or kill the process, leading to loss of work.

b) You accidentally import the whole scene (instead of 1 asset you think you've exported) into another software, it freezes/crashes and you lose your work.

I'm writing this out of serious frustration and I bet this has been talked about a few times on different places already. Please where I can sign some kind of petition to make "Export Selected Only" as default? export.png

Alternative: add it as an option in the Blender preferences. This way the frustration will maybe not come as often and atleast I can blame myself for not setting my working environment properly.

This idea was marked as a duplicate of Export Selection Only on by default in 2.8.

We have operators presets in the side panel but no way to set that preset as the default one. That already should save a lot of time.

This requested have been made many times (see : blender.community/c/rightclickselect/MQfbbc/ and blender.community/c/rightclickselect/dDcbbc/ )

There is also a task waiting from early 2020 developer.blender.org/D6616

I don't really know what is the reason of this request not being done. If the devs do meeting and choose to not integrate it, please expose arguments in a blender news blog, or something, so we can know for what reason this thing is still not added by default.

Which exporter are you referring to? There are many file types and each has its own exporter. I would never suggest having a 'one size fits all' checkbox for all of them.

I like the way the glTF exporter works. It has a 'Remember Export Settings' option. It also has:

Limit To: -Selected Objects -Visible Objects -Renderable Objects -Active Collection
