Copy/Paste Nodes Across Blender Files

I know I can copy paste objects with ctrl c/v. But nodes always say "clipboard is empty" when you try to do the same. Sure you can append a node tree and delete the unneeded part, or first copy the carrier object and then duplicate the nodes within the target file, it's just that it suffers a lower level of convenience compared to object copying while being a very similar operation. And sometimes you just open another Blender window to experiment with materials or geometry nodes, and probably just want to duplicate only part of your node playground, without any intention to save it as a file. Then you have nowhere to append from.

There certainly is a "clipboard" somewhere that is not empty, because I can copy and paste nodes within the current file. It will be great if it can be used across files.

Yes, it's an annoying bug. Besides of fu**ing working it would also be very practical if the shader/geometry nodes clipboard would be in plain text so you could for instance simply mail the code to a colleague. I'm using this with Nuke nodesscripts all the time.
