Making Blender the most powerful video editing software

It would be wonderful to have a "compositor modifier" for adjustment strip in blender VSE that would channel the strips below adjustment strip (for which it was added) through blender compositor (just like geometry node modifier does allowing mesh data to be manipulated in GN editor..)

The benefits:

  1. Use of power of compositor for edited(cut, mixed, multiple) video, improving editting even more
  2. Allowing use of buffer(prefetching in cache) power of sequencer for composite sequence, for faster playback of composite
  3. compositing selective parts of strips in a single session by cutting, moving or changing time length of adjustment strip
  4. Using once made tree in adjustment layer again by just duplicating adjustment strip(i.e, copying modifier)
  5. Allowing users to make transitions of their own between two strips (allowing users to be more creatively use blender)
  6. There may be more benefits depending upon the users' creativity

I am not a progrmmer but I think it's possible with the help of wonderful developers contributing to blender everyday and making it more limitless

I have a few issues with VSE feature proposals such as this one. Actually, pretty much every feature proposal that is about adding a somewhat unusual feature or advanced feature, but in an application area that is on the edge of Blender's purpose: Being a 3D creation suite, as stated on Blender.org .
Though it is supposed to support the entirety of the 3D pipeline and a bit more, I think it is safe to say that, with limited development resources, you have to chose your battles.

And here's how I see it for the VSE:

  • Blender lacks the minimal tools to be even a decent video editor ;
  • The gap between the current state and a decent state is already huge ;
  • Video editing is far down the priority list in a generalist 3D Content Creation tool ;
  • There are so many areas that are more in Blender's purpose spectrum and yet lack a lot of development.

While I don't think this kind of feature proposals are bad, I do feel a bit skeptical about even endorsing them right now. Because dozens of stairs with many steps needs to be made before even thinking about that.

For instance, the VSE has a huge lack of playback performance even on a 720p project. Can't manage multiple framerates properly. Lack of file management tools, which is crucial on any serious editing project where managing files becomes vital. Lack of simple to use transitions and effects (what's already there is either done manually like we're in the 90s).

The "compositor modifier" you describe, feels a lot like what we can find in professional-grade video editing softwares. But these have dealt with simple everyday needs before getting that feature, Blender is not there yet.

I don't see the reason to not do some more features around cuts movie files to have one software around. In fact the video editors for modify results in blender doing problems to adopt the edited files, also edit this in blender can support efficiency.

As other users talking that blender is more like "modifier" due CGI/VFX, maybe they should work more around post production to see problems. I think that some of this needs can be done.

Why not just use Resolve? It's also free and I would consider it to be the best VES at the moment

No, make blender really powerfull, easy to use, consistent 3d modelling/sculpting/rendering tool, at first, please.

There is no any "at first". If VSE were a dead feature - it would be removed same as game engine. As far as it is not - it has to be improved time by time.

I missing BGE, and I'm angry that must have 2 version to use UBGE that is often not uptodate like main blender by this.

ok-what

There's a proposal and a discussion about this here .

I totally agree, I consider Blender the complete package for anything to do with CG or video production, audio mixing...etc.

However, it still needs various tools and customizations for users to do tasks easily and efficiently.

That's why I suggest that Blender not to remove any feature but enhance it, Blender is available to any artist to do their work without the need to keep paying subscriptions to other software and we love it to be always this way.

It is about priorities in adding features but not to remove them. I strongly suggest not to remove any feature but to enhance it and have priorities in adding these features to keep Blender always powerful and inclusive.

Thanks!!

Blender is not the most powerful video editing software :) Check this topic or this one , or just use search next time (something like VSE would help)

Not yet, that was my proposal to make it more powerful and creative. The proposals(topics) you mentioned are of limited use than introducing a sequencer modifier per strip. Hoping I made myself clearer:) I would appreciate all giving my proposal a good read and making developers interested in this task!
