Nodes editing in the VSE
Although the VSE has strip modifiers per strip and an adjustment effect, it would be more useful to have access to nodes from the VSE to save double handling of media.
For example I would like to do my chroma keying as a just in time process rather than rendering out a keyed version to another file. As the compositor and the VSE are not tied together it is difficult to know which frames need processing anyway.
Color grades would also benefit from being able to create a "group" node that can be applied on other strips. Perhaps the nodes could be accessed as a modifier. Modifiers already confer alpha and color adjustments to a strip.

Nice!!! I thought of the same thing a while ago!! I sooo wish they will put this feature in the next version or atleast, someone would make an addon
There are some Add-ons already... blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php, VSE strips to the compositor: blenderartists.org/forum/attachment.php, blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php, blendernation.com/2013/06/14/tip-caching-node-compositing-using-vse/
Blender 5.0 will introduce a compositor modifier letting you add compositing nodes on video strips:
#139634 - VSE: Add Compositor modifier - blender - Blender Projects
That would be so useful… but see also blender.community/c/rightclickselect/gxAZ/ for an improvement over this proposition to use a generic re-usable geometry-node with inputs etc.
I've made a proposal for this . If you want and have time I'd like to hear feedback so that the idea can be ironed out.
I understand that this is for suggestions... and this is a suggestion... and the link I'm going to paste doesn't fix anything... but there's a way to use chroma in VSE. Maybe it's interesting for you, take a look: blender.stackexchange.com/questions/78947/how-can-i-do-color-keying-using-the-vse
Also, I understand that VSE, as it is right now, processes image in a faster way than compositor. It has very fewer possibilities than compositor, but, after some tests I did, it takes less time to render some filters/effects.
Maybe, if VSE and Compositor would be one... this speed advantage would be no more.
(think you meant to post that here? If so yes, that’s the way you’d go about it)
This or an equivalent behavior is something I've been wanting for years. Now, it would be possible to partially do this even as an addon now with not that much code - ie, take the current strip (assuming it's a video or image), make a new empty scene, add the image/strip as an input to the node editor of that scene, and then in the original VSE replace the strip with a scene strip. But you wouldn't get live previewing of course and it's much more awkward.
Having per-strip self contained node layouts would by ridiculously amazingly useful. There would need to be ways to help out with performance, either more persistence caching or per-strip options to reduce resolution, but overall this would really make me want to move to blender for video editing.
of course theres an elephant in the room, and that is using the nodes to correspond with one another. After all that is a key feature of nodes and sure you could have an "input strip" node, but what happens when that node gets trimmed or moved away from the strip you are effecting? Does its input become black or maybe transparent?
