Lock Viewport Display color to Base Color
Hi,
I'm new to Blender, but have 30 years experience in 3D. I'm getting familiar with the workflows and processes of Blender, and it can sometimes be a challenge to make that transition.
One thing that tripped me up was simply displaying rough approximations of material colors in the viewports. I set the display mode to Solid, but could not see the materials I assigned to objects. I made sure the Color option was set to Material... to no avail.
Then I discovered that each material has a Viewport Display color. OK, so far so good. But I don't see a way to link the Viewport Display color to the Base color of the material. This would be a very helpful option, and I would like to see a Preference to keep it enabled by default.
There are definitely times when I want to see models with no materials, but most of the time I want to see those materials, or at least a rough approximation. And since I can't choose Eevee in one viewport and Cycles in another, I have to use Workbench for layout and Cycles for lookdev and lighting. If I could see some semblance of my material color in Workbench without manually dragging and dropping every material Base color onto its corresponding Viewport Color, I could get mostly to where I need to be.
Please add an option to the Viewport Color to lock it to the Base color, and a Preference to keep this option enabled by default for all new materials.
Thanks,
Aaron F. Ross

The problem is what happens if you have a mix shader as the top most node? or procedural Textures or a huge node tree behind it? But if you use cycles, Lookdev/material preview is still Eevee, why not use this, optionaly with scene world and scene lights enabled? than you have the same as eevee.
