Highlight on Focus
I've spent a lot of time this past year making sprites for a UI I was working on and realised that all interactive UI elements id make would have to have a Highlight on hover state. This shows the user whether their cursor is on or near a selectable or interactive item. Then I thought about my issues I've had in the past when selecting in Blender. Trying to select a Lamp, Empty or object can be tedious when they are either overlapping or very close to each other. It becomes a Select, Undo, Select, Undo, Select, Undo process to get the right one selected.
So then what if we had a hover/Proximity highlight feature in blenders workspaces, like the 3D view, node editor, UV space etc. It could help with this issue by providing visual feedback to the user on what will be selected if you click, allowing for less unintentional selections that you have to undo.
Edges, Faces Vertices, Objects, Cameras, and Lamps could all benefit from this feature that could also be toggleable in the overlays options.
I'm not sure how performance heavy such a feature would be but I thought it was a good enough idea to share as so much work has been going into usability features lately.

It's called preselection highlight and has been proposed here at least once blender.community/c/rightclickselect/xcdbbc/
