Completed Tasks/Proposals

This is just a suggestion for Right-Click Select.

I think the completed tasks should not longer appear in the main list and they could be shown by using the sort by drop-down menu or something (Completed or Developement) Somethign along those lines. I think they are taking space at the top of the rating sorting while they are already available in Blender (Shadow Catcher) for instance and many others to come which will make things worse at the top of the rating system. That way it could let you know whats been added, what is being added and it would leave the ratings for new proposals only, therefore, making it much cleaner.

Progress report is that posts now have statuses where you can see if an idea is Done, In Development, or a few others.

Good suggestion. I'd say tags for:

  • In-development
  • Completed
  • Blocked

Would all be useful. First two would be obvious. Blocked would definitely be a lot more niche but could be relevant for things that we know are on the roadmap but are blocked atm by something else that needs to be done first.

Also agreed on the remove 0 up-vote ideas after X amount of months.

* @3rton93 * yeah something like "rejected" Google made this in their feature proposals for their business tools. Some Googlers picked the posts with the most votes, changed the status and added a statement in the comments

Also I can propose to free list for a bit:

  • Add filter option - hide from main list suggestions that don't become hot after some time ( 1 month maybe ). It's not hard to grab 6 votes if it proposed something really necessary & cool.
  • To remove after some time automatically suggestions with negative vote values.

@forestgumpovu4: I like the idea of removing proposals that don't have at least 2 votes or maybe a few more after a certain amount of time. Another way to clear the clutter even tho it can be interesting for someone it might not be vital for Blender development at that moment or there could be ways around to achieve the proposed feature.

There's a long-standing to-do item for indicating the status of proposals. This would include marking duplicates, indicating which proposals have been made design tasks on developer.blender.org , and even which ones have been implemented (perhaps with a link to the commit to Blender's git repository.

@Jason van Gumster: But we need to have a clear picture of whats going on and where are things at without having to refer to another website. Otherwise, why would we need Right-Click Select in the first place? I think this website might work better for initial proposals and then once they are accepted it can continue on the other.

jason

@luisburdallo: Official development tasks happen on developer.blender.org . This site is for collecting and discussing user ideas. We should be able to track status with the mechanisms I've mentioned, but this site is definitely not for managing Blender's development.

Luis.Burdallo Author

@Jason van Gumster: I know it works like that. Not sure then I understand your comment. Don't you agree things should be better organized over here?

jason

@luisburdallo: The biggest thing is to get statuses for each proposal. This could kind of be done with tags, but right now those are too general to be used the way that I'm thinking about it. Status flags with associated metadata (like links to the main developer site) are probably the best way to pull it off (unless Pablo and Francesco have other ideas for the Dillo backend)

Luis.Burdallo Author

@Jason van Gumster: I agree with that but there are others things that can be done. For instance, why having old proposals that have already been implemented and why not moving them to a new section of completed proposals so people know what's available in Blender. Many people propose stuff that already exists or has been proposed already (double proposals).

jason

@luisburdallo: Yes. That's what the statuses are for. It doesn't need to be another section. Just a search filter by status.

This site is not a feature list for Blender. We already have the Blender website and the manual for that.

Luis.Burdallo Author

@Jason van Gumster: No one is asking for a list of features but for features that were proposed here in the first place and already available in Blender so people can check out if they have already been implemented before making a new proposal. It will be much easier for everyone. I think you misunderstood the initial proposal as it only refers to whats already here or future proposals. Pablo can decide the best way to achieve this as he runs it. It's just a proposal for better organization within RCS.

jason

@luisburdallo: So we're basically arguing about agreeing. You want a way to see if proposals have been implemented. I want to use statuses to do that.

Luis.Burdallo Author

@Jason van Gumster: Probably we are. I was just trying to make my proposal clear I was not trying to bring the entire Blender development over here. Just to have a clearer picture of whats going on this web only. Search filter by status won't remove the proposals that were added to Blender. Why would you want to have them visible all the time? In the future, it will just clutter as it is doing it now. Having a separate section for that would also work. Not entirely sure whats possible in this website as I don't know how it works in the backend. Obviously, anything can be made but I was just suggesting the idea not the process to get it done.
