Shader Nodes Group Input
Similar to the Group Input of Geometry Nodes exposing important parameters to the user of the node tree (i.e. the GN modifier) I propose a
Group Input node for shader node trees to expose parameters to the Material Properties tab
This way we can change the most important material parameters without having to open the Shader Editor and hunting down a particular setting!
Here's a quick mockup:
To take it one step further I think in this case it should even be possible to edit these parameters on the Group Input node as well!

This is a great idea to come up as "Everything Nodes" begins to spread, we should always allow node groups to send parameters to the corresponding properties panel so users don't have to dive into the whole node editors to make adjustments.
i could see that for sure. It would make memorization easier.
Awesome idea! 💯👌
Great idea!
Great idea. I've got a proposal for the shader editor too, it would be nice if you could check it out (after upvoting this proposal): blender.community/c/rightclickselect/cfhbbc/
logged in to bump this up,
this seems to also work well with this suggestion: blender.community/c/rightclickselect/6BRO/
if blender treated materials as a root nodegroup, then we could just drag and drop the material "group" into the nodetree just like we already do with normal groups
Hello ChrisP I like your thinking. Everything is the same everywhere!
Shader adjustable in the material? Not with the modifier?
And what I like best is the idea of the GroupInput. Everything should be able to be transferred there. And all these "important" elements could be visible and controllable on the right side, or only in the closed group.
My basic idea that brought me to the group was the color ramp: blender.community/c/rightclickselect/65dbbc Happy blendering :-)
Potentially dumb question, is this purely a convenience for access or does this functionally expose these variables to other inputs?
* @info41 * Hi, what exactly do you mean with "other inputs"? I was thinking a quality-of-life improvement so that you can quickly change the most important properties of your material without having to go to the shader editor...
