ray visibility for collections
We need to be able to set per ray visibility for entire collections, handy if you need to mask the full collection and also have everything in the collection invisible to all rays (glossy, diffue, shadow, volume scatter, transmission).
This will open up more possibilities in comp.

Hey I feel what you need, but considering this platform, it is best if you can give more in depth proposal, that would be really helpful for the devs.
Imo, I agree Blender will need this Collection ray visibility. My studio and I do always use this in real animation production, vray has something that they called vray object properties which user can pick what ray vis thay need, maya arnold has their own object set which can then be assigned to spesific ray visibility.
In my case I want to make a shadow matte that I really need all the objects under Environment collection should not casting any shadow, so I can only get shadow casting from Characters collection, I can still do that by turn off shadow ray vis per object, but then I loose flexibility for other Scene, because those shadow ray vis will be affected on all Scenes, that is not efficient
This is alrady possible, isn't it? You can set a collection to mask or indirect only in the outliner.
* @Josephbburg * yes, but then you have to turn off the ray visibility for each object the container contains. Not ideal because you might need one render layer to be masked but still reflect/refract the contents (which isn't possible if you've changed the visiblity at object level)
You could create a second scene and make those objects single user....but it's getting a bit messy at this point.
* @3d illusions * I don't understand why you would have to do any individual object editing. Why?
* @Josephbburg * if you wanted the objects to be masked AND not be visible in reflections AND masked and visible to reflections in another viewlayer. For compositing purposes when you want to seperate the reflection of one object using subtraction.
* @3d illusions * Just seems like something that would be easy enough to do with the compositing nodes as they are.
* @Josephbburg * how would you isolate just the reflection of one object in comp?
* @3d illusions * You want to mask just the reflection of individual objects? That doesn't sound easy. Doesn't sound easy to implement without at least Light Path Expressions.
* @Josephbburg * it'd be easy if this suggestion was implemented :) Could still be easier, but that would require adding an object, and a material index output to the lightpath node, see here:

* @3d illusions * Did you find a solution for this?
* @vino3d * yes the current workaround is to select all contents of the collection making sure the active object is also in the collection, then go to object properties and turn off the individual ray visibility checkboxes whilst holding down the ALT key. The ALT key ensures changing the setting also applies to all selected objects
