Independent viewport shading mode per collection

E.g. Easily set the current object being edited to Solid while the remaining objects are displayed as Wireframe for 'background' reference while modeling.

I realize that viewport display can be set per object. However, it would be nice to be able to do this using collections in the Outliner.

This could allow Outliner to better leverage the layering aspect of collections for modeling and aligning components (similar to certain other 3D apps).

These kind of feature is part of the dynamic overrides project. This project is complex and has been post-poned until it is more feasible to add to the current planning. Hopefully this will change in the future. projects.blender.org/blender/blender/issues/96144

Not possible with the infinite objects in infinite collections many-to-many relationship that is possible with collections. We either need GROUPS first or to separate the layering aspect from collections into something else.

Yes, there is a problem with cumulativity, but it might be resolved as in Layer Management addon (by Bastien Montagne) - with toggle at click. Also it would benefit from enhancement like that - blender.community/c/rightclickselect/9Dq3/

Oh i didn't see your proposal, similar to mine : blender.community/c/rightclickselect/pZmQ/

There was an option back then to link all duplicate or similar proposal on blender.community , i don't know if it's still there.
