pressing s after shift + a should always open the search menu.

I find it super annoying that in some editors shift + a + s opens the search, whereas in others (such as the 3d viewport) , s doesnt search, instead it goes into the surface submenu.

I say, always have s bring up the search box after pressing shift + a.

Why not just start searching as as soon as the user starts typing in any Shift-A menu? For the special case of the search menu I never found the one letter shortcuts for menues and items useful. I either navigate by mouse completely or I start typing to search the item.

Or maybe at least have [Alt] + [Shift] + A open the search-add menu immediately.

Because "any Shift+A menu" is still "just menu". In "just menu" work auto hotkes assignment (like in all other menus) so you can't just start typing for search. You have to change this menu behavior to some "not standard menu" first.

In node editors you already can change default add menu to jsut search (like on GIF). But you can't do same for 3D view because there is no any search for 3D view add menu yet. After all - even this suggestion (posted one year ago) is still "in development" when so many people vote for it. They can't just connect together two events wire drag + mouse button release to open damn search, so hard to implement....

Sure but why not have [Alt] + [Shift] + A open the type-search menu immediately, then?

I didn't say not to have it. I said that first it need to implement search. With this productivity (implementing search while dragging wires) it may happen "almost never"... ))

Ah. That's what you mean. Yes, that an inconsistency. True. That's not what this submission is about, though. This is about why the search function in the dialogues it does exist in doesn't have its own invocation hotkey, like s.

On a sidenote: I did put my direct search functions on Alt-Shift-S in all the supported editors for myself, just now, though. :D

When this was proposed 2 month ago - it was just ignored... someone even voted against it.
