Petition to land the "Gizmo Button for Lock Camera to View" patch

Not much to say. The patch is ready, but for some very very very obscure reason, it never moves forward.

I saw an Addon/Script that proposed such kind of feature, but it was on the Header (at the very end of it: right side), not dependent on the Navigate Gizmo (which sometimes is better to Disable to preserve screen space.

This is my personal understanding: I'd prefer "Camera Lock to View" condition to show in a more 'rooted' spot; not saying the Header Region is a better spot than the Navigate Gizmo stuff in every way; there are pros and cons for each choice. There should be something better perhaps.

Meanwhile, I Assigned Shortcut [ Alt+Numpad 0 ] to the ☑️ Camera Lock to View Option. This is good technique. But it would be improved by an update like the one proposed here.

I sympathize.

The reason the patch hasn't moved forward is because of the decision that, as an operator that involves actually changing something in the scene (specifically a camera object's position), it didn't belong with those other icons, which were purely navigational and didn't change anything.

One solution I thought of was having the icon be somewhere near the margin of the frame when in camera view. I was actually able to get this idea in front of Pablo Vasquez's eyes during a Blender Today stream ( youtu.be/pVMCjLgwN_k , 39:45), and he wasn't opposed to the idea. It'd be nice to see it go somewhere. I thought about making a formal Right Click Select proposal for it, but I haven't done it.

is that not even a simple task for a add on..

I don't think those buttons are exposed in python. You can't add anything to that element. If I'm wrong correct me and I'll do the add-on

No, because that bit of the interface isn't done in Python.

The feature as requested in this thread has already been coded internally as a pull/update request; it simply is not being approved Main, for ... whatever reasons.

(And yes, I've already gone and recoded my install of blender to put the feature as a dedicated button in the header. But full integration would benefit the entire userbase.)
