Groups to translate/rotate/scale/add modifiers on multiple objects together.

Simplest thing ever : Everything is in the title.

Grouping objects and then simply move the container group or whatever we call it, is really a feature that Blender misses. I think Blender is the only software that doesn't have this yet actually (I may be wrong).

Those groups could have other attributes than just the transform one, such as the modifiers, so users can do very effective setups once that apply onto multiple geometry by example.

PS: There are already some tricks for doing such a thing, but they are not native and very practical at all.

This one overlaps with a more complete proposal asking for groups/containers.

* @Ge Ro * Thank you, indeed I didn't find this one when searching for groups. I encourage poeple watching this post voting for the group/container post as well as it is better than my post if you too miss the feature.

No, you can already transform a collection by right clicking a collection, clicking "select objects", then transforming the selection with the pivot point at the median point. To speed things up, you can assign "L" as a shortcut to select everything in a collection.

* @BlenderSplendor * That is exactly the point of my postsciptum :)

* @XYZS * What about triple click to select everything in a collection? It'd be super intuitive.

Lauloque

* @BlenderSplendor * transforming a collection as a single object and being able to add modifiers on isn't the same thing as transforming multiple objects as one.

In the later, you manage multiple objects individually. In the first, you manage only a single "container".

thinsoldier

* @BlenderSplendor * In other programs making a group/collection implicitly creates an invisible 'empty' and the objects become children. You can then transform the group itself as a parent object. Sometimes you can even apply effects at the group item level which is very fast and convenient and easy to manage.

That's container objects, i'm pretty sure i've seen several proposals for that already.

I think that the current collection is not good for that, because one object can be in multiple collections. Would be good to introduce some different structure like group, see my post blender.community/c/rightclickselect/mRfbbc/ there are also plugins which can do it in the current version of Blender.

* @tomas.prochazka * I don't think the "1 object in multiple collections" thing would be a huge issue. If I apply some kind of effect at the collection level it shouldn't be modifying the linked object. It might be necessary to duplicate the object in memory to apply the effect, so we lose that benefit, but it opens up other benefits that allows users to easily do some things.

What would this specifically used for?

XYZS Author

* @johnpdelacruz26 * Imagine you create a neighborhood and you want to duplicate it and you want to move it and more. You dont want each of your buildings to have crazy complex transform values, but simple ones relative to the group instead.
