"Separate Shader" shader node

it would be great to have a "separate shader" node. It would simplify access to each channels mix and, above all, it would make all texture bakes easy... Screenshot from 2024-04-11 10-28-28.png

My Proposal of "Separate Shader BSDF" node

The role of "Separate Shader BSDF" node:

  • Baking
  • Mixing

Note: Principled BSDF Node will act as "Combine Shader BSDF" node

I agree with baking argument, but I'm not sure if there is a need for a separate node to do it. I think there was some mentioning of baking workflow in the Layered Texture Design. Cannot find the link now, maybe someone else will chime in.

Hello. This might be a terrible comparison but this is my understanding. Think of it as a cooking recipe for a cake. You put in eggs, flour, butter, sugar, chocolate chips. Scramble everything in a cake plate. Put in the heated oven for 30 minutes. Take the cake out, let it cool off. Now call a friend of yours and ask them to tell you how many eggs you put in the cake. How much flour ? How long it cooked ? Would they be able to answer ? Now think of the input of your shader as your ingredients, the shader node as your oven, and the shader output as your cooled off cake. Do you think what you're asking is feasible ? Cheers
