'Select Objects' when left-clicking collections in outliner

I think this confuses a lot of people. If you have an object and you select it in the outliner it will be highlighted/selected in the 3d-view. But if you select a collection it will only be highlighted/selected in the outliner and not in the 3d-view.

Andrew Hodgson has shared his thoughts in that video and I can totally understand the frustration. Here is the link if you are interested youtube.com/watch .

When you use this "select objects" on collection - what will happend is you deselect collection and select objects. So how you propose to manage collection by context menu if selecting collection will deselect it immidietly to select objects which belong to it?

Just assign some shortcut...

* @IIIFGIII * You're right, I haven't thought about that. Andrew pointed out that you can't select multiple collections. I just tried to do 'select objects' on multiple collections but it will always deselect the first one. So I'd have to do 'select objects' on the first collection and use CTRL+SHIFT on the objects of the other collection. Or is there an easier way?

I just really feel like it could be improved but my idea doesn't seem to be the right one. Hope someone can come up with something better.

* @vladi_foerster * Hmmm... "Select objects" work only for active collection. So if you want to select all of child objects of multiple collection you just can't. Via context menu just no way. If you have already selected some mesh objects and some collection - you have no more option "Select objects" in context menu...

But it work if you assign shortcut and do like: select first collection > do shortcut to select child > Ctrl+Clich select new collection > shortcut to select child.

And yeah - Shift+Click not the best example, it overlap with multiselect :) Maybe better to propose do something with this multiple collection select child issue.
