Lighter, or dotted axis lines on the negative sides

Not the most important thing in the world, but I would like to have a theming option for rendering the negative axis lines as dotted or in a lighter color to differentiate between directions more easily.

Unlike many CAD programs Blender uses absolute directions for operations—even if you move your mouse in the negative X direction during translation or extrusion, for instance, it'll move the object on the positive X if you don't press minus (-) when you enter a distance value. There have been some proposals to change that but I doubt it will, which is fine, current system has its advantages and pressing minus is easy enough anyways; but at least I'd like that strong preference reflected in the UI.

Coming from that CAD background, I thought I'd get used to it with time, but it has been years and I still find myself looking for that visual clue during navigation and whatnot so I thought I'd put it out there. Cheers.

My way of handling with this always is to look at the gizmo at the top right corner of 3d viewport and judge orientation this way. Gizmo is always drawn in ortho view and it does not help (I even wanted to propose two: ortho and perspective gizmos - that can auto switch if use perspective or not in 3d view). I think your proposition is clear and friendly to use. (BTW if it will be added - it should have the settings in preferences for opacity and the dot density and size).

That's also what I do, usually, but it still requires you to move your eyes away from what you're doing, it's not as instantaneous—and sometimes you have your gizmos turned off anyways. Agreed on theming preferences.

I agree it is not convenient to move eyes often. I was also far from saying, that it is any good alternative, just to show how "bad" it is right now. Your proposition deserve to be implemented asap.
