Our team could really use an 8 bit weight painter, let me explain.

We use Unreal engine for our game, and Unreal converts all the vertex weights to an 8-bit integer value between 0 and 255. This can cause some rounding errors where Unreal will take the same weight, and round some of them up, and some of them down.

All I need is a way to pretend like I'm painting in 8 bit, meaning I'd select a weight value between 0 and 255, and blender would lerp this under the hood to the existing weighting code.

So to clarify, it wouldn't change anything fundamentally about how blender wights, It's just a UI update, with a lerp function you could switch on or off depending on what you're doing.

Thanks for talking about this on the live chat. Unreal does it for performance, I would suspect they all do, otherwise a float value for every vertex on a mesh with thousands of vertices could cause a huge performance overhead in a game where you have a lot of animated characters walking around.

I've asked this question on blender artists, and would even be willing to try to do this as an add-on, but I really don't have the coding chops to do this on my own. I don't even know where to begin.

I've got a post up on Blender Artists if anyone want's to give me some hints. blenderartists.org/t/is-there-an-8-bit-weight-painting-setting-or-script-or-add-on/1224229/2

Hi Pablo & Dalai,

The wireframe slider of Overlay controls number of wires to display. I sent pache D7622 to change the slider function that adjust the opacity of wires. Are there are any possibilities this patch will be adopted?

* @mztn.org * as a modelling artist i requested this feature. But no one cares how important it is. Thank you so much for this patch. I really appreciate your support.

Is spectral rendering going to be added anywhen in future?

Hello to everyone! Question: Is Blender's game engine coming back any time soon?

*** Mantaflow & GPU

Some questions about the features of the future..:

  • will Mantaflow take advantage of GPU like EmberGen?
  • can a stack of modifiers be exported and reused (to emulate a custom modifier)?
  • what is the future of Cycles, what new features are incoming and will it ever be

able to compete with Octane or Arnold (in term of performance)?

  • what new modeling tools we have to expect in the next releases?

A suggestion: what do you think about a new series of tutorial (like the one about coding) focused on "god" topoplogy to teach how to solve the main problems in box modeling?

thank you!

I'm basically Indicating the Gradient Background Behind.... Image

This is a Screenshot From Settlers Walkthrough Videos by Julien Kasper.... He was Using 2.83

Is Gradient Backgrounds in Solid-Mode, Like that a Feature in 2.83? or can We already Set Background Gradient Like that in Solid-Mode? (I am Asking Because my Guess is It was Done using Code)

Thank You Pablo and Dalai.... You People Have been Working Hard For Blender.... (Quite Inspires Me.... That's Why I Watch BlenderTodays)

Hi, any ETA for the return of Bake to Vertex Colors feature which was removed after 2.79? blender.community/c/rightclickselect/kCcbbc/ The request has some votes and is already more than one year old.

Are there any plans for the Edit Mode performance improvements or Asset Manager?

Thanks

hello pablo.. i have a question.. why blender takes time while rendering when i try to render any object with a trasparent baground? it try to find something on the trasparent side, not only the only the object. it cost time. hope you understand the question.

Hi Pablo & Dalai,

thank you so much for making these streams/videos! I discovered them much to late, so I had a lot of catching up to do, lately... Actually, Corona helped with that. :-)

One question regarding the 'Everything Nodes Project': Lately, I'm creating many fantasy plants, twines and other kinds of vegetation for 3d-printing. The Skin-Modifier has been very useful for that. Especially in combination with the ShrinkWrap modifier.

offset

For that, it would be great if I could set the ShrinkWrap offset to e.g. 1/3 of each vertexes Skin radius.

I checked out the Blender source code and I think I found the right place for this to happen - if only I knew how. ;-)

Now, here is the question: Is this something that could be done with modifier nodes (in the future)? Like: plugging the SkinRadius into the ShrinkOffset... As simple as that?

Thanks again and have a great today/everyday everyone! Helge

Hey Pablo!

Thanks for showing my "analogUX" proposals in previous Q&As ( StylusUX and Analog Precision Mode ).

The problem in a nutshell:
All the sliders/tool manipulators behave in a binary way. To click or not to click, that is the question, there are no inbetween states. Our current input devices (especially tablets) offer a bit more freedom, but we don't take their advantages for most of the UI/UX stuff. I'm not talking about Neuralink, just it would be great to use the degree of freedom of the current hardware for a more fluent and effective interaction.

Questions:

  • What do you think, who would be interested to roll these forward beyond the proposal state? I'm not a coder but can help in other ways (proposals already have some useful info).
  • Could you please ask the UX/UX team, what are their thoughts regarding my proposals?
  • A UI/UX SPECIAL | Blender Today would be great though...

Does everybody knows if there is any possibility to use layers in vertex paint mode on grease pencil?

paulhart

Is there a solution? Created a Complex boat model, multiple Collections (Hull, Masts, Sails, Rigging, etc.) I want to be able to Animate the Rotation of the boat on Axis, to tilt over correctly while sailing, What is needed is being able to Parent Collections to an Empty, or something similar. Complex Multiple Collection models exist, how to have them all work as a whole. How does Blender Institute Staff solve this problem. Thank you.

Try Improving the blender's cycle engine it needs some improvement in turns of performance

* @leonardo10414782 * It Wouldn't be Dev Friendly... Like At the Start It wouldn't Start CMD then....

But I Think this will be good for only LTS (Long TermSupport) Releases
