jerzy.gorski.art

Hi, what makes Toon Boom industry standard for 2D animation and what is still Blender missing?

4
RodDavis92

* @jerzy.gorski.art * Some key missing things other than export imo.

+Shape UI picker --Picking though shapes with a window. --more of a cutout workflow --At the moment it can be achieved through Time Offset but no visual indication.

+Nodal workflow --Could be achieved though everything nodes in the future.

+Instant planar lattices --Harmony allows a drawing/shape to be edited with a "2d_Bounding_box/Planar Lattice"

I think those are more or less the most needed additions. Again, imo.

golagoon

Is it possible to add some sort of edit points to control the stroke in 3d and manipulate them like nurb curves ?

3
Josephbburg

* @goolagoon * Yeah! Like the way RetopoFlow generates Bezier splines for face ribbons.

fink.marco

* @goolagoon * totally agree, currently its a 100 % destructive workflow

pfbourassa

Would it be possible to add a Displace Modifier for grease pencil?

I want to create "boil" procedurally, but Noise Modifier doesn't work well for this.

Good morning! Will you guys soon have the option to for us to upload outside brushes? For example, I have a lot of brushes on Photoshop and Procreate that I would love to use in Blender 2D. Thanks

dave3

Just want to say Thanks Guys! My favourite animation tool so far and you have just started!

Please ask: When will the Storyboarding Feature will be ready?

(I'm a storyboard artist and resent paying $1000 USD for Toon Boom Storyboard Pro).

Also, thanks to the GP team for being awesome.

2

Is there any news on the storyboarding project ? like : What kind of features are they thinking about and what kind of timeline?

And also what are the grease pencil devs the most exited about (dream features or projects...) :)

3dcinetv

Will the grease pencil materials be interpreted as a flat emission shader for Cycles to be calculated in the montecarlo path tracing? Also, GP objects at the moment (2.83) are currently rendered in FRONT of all VDB volumes. A fix for that will land?

2
bernou.samuel

Grease pencil is awesome, the only current weakness is flat colorisation, what is currently planned (fill/auto-fill methods ?). keep up !

Hello, everyone! I've got two cheeky questions for you.

  1. In my ten years of blender I have never seen an add-on that adds a modifier or a node (that isn't a node group made up of already existing ndoes). Can add-on developers make modifiers or nodes? I can think of a few that would be more at home in the modifier panel than in the N-panel.
  2. Did you remember to wash your hands?

Hi pablo, hi everyone.

Thank you for all your hard work. I am using nothing but the grease pencil daily to make a movie so there's no word to express the gratitude I feel toward all of you.

Since 2.80, there has been issues concerning anti-aliasing (mostly with blending modes).

It seems to be resolved in the 2.83 alpha version provided that a new grease pencil object is made and rendered. It seems that grease pencil objects made with previous versions, opened and rendered with the 2.83 alpha version, aren't anti-aliased properly (even without using fx or modifiers).

Will "old" grease pencil strokes be fully compatibles with the refactor and its anti-aliasing system?

Thank you and have a good day.

What is your favourite 2D feature film?

Is there an easy way to create blank keyframes?

I go to edit mode -> select all -> move a little -> delete all

Thanks!

2
bernou.samuel

* @pfbourassa * shift+i in the top menu : draw > animation > insert blank frame

tintwotin

How do you guys see the VSE integrated with a GP/storyboard workflow?

2
Cobra

Hi. I have two quick questions.

1 - Grease Pencil keys don't take into account when you set "keyframe type" to a new one, if i make "Extremes" as my default type and draw they're all shown as "keyframes" is this a missing feature?

also made a feature request to include annotation & playback tools in the anim player. blender.community/c/rightclickselect/dxfbbc/

2 - To Master Lara, we all love the concept of "the easy rigging" but it seems not pushed any further in Blender, it could be a good way to introduce people to the world of rigging and animation.

lopoisaac

Hi! Thanks for making Blender better everyday! I have 2 questions related to Grease Pencil:

  1. I'm really enjoying the new "Tint Brush" tool (thanks for doing it!). It works great with strokes but I don't know how should I use it with fills (it tints all the fill uniformly!).
  2. What is your favourite feature of Grease Pencil or what feature would you love to see implemented someday?

Thanks and please stay safe! Best wishes to Ton!

AcideRominé

Hi, do you have any plans to make easier moving the drawing in 3D while not changing it from the camera point of view ?

1
matbrady

Thank you! :D

dave3

Two feature requests for when you get through all YOUR awesome ideas.

  1. rotate canvas - drawing curves can be a killer without this.

  2. Page flip. - When drawing to be able to scrub through the timeline with the stylus while in the drawing window. Ideally to be able to jump back to the frame the artist was working on. I used to be able to do this with pencil and paper :-)

1
Josephbburg

* @dave3 * Rotate Canvas is already possible -- Shift - Numpad 4 and Shift - Numpad 6 . You can set a custom hotkey, I used to use ctrl -mousewheel before I switched to Linux (and didn't bother to set it up again :| )

booz.boxer

JUST TESTED - IT DOESN'T WORK FOR CAMERA VIEW, THAT IS DEFAULT FOR "2D ANIMATION" WORKSPACE... at least for 2.82a

Josephbburg

I'd love to see a set of features for keeping GP strokes on the surface of a mesh (surface deform modifier or a tool for copying deform weights).

I will eventually write a Python script for this if it isn't planned. But does anyone know if it's planned for the future?

simoneskildsen

Will it be possible in the future to use greasepencil and blender for something like Disney’s deep canvas (used for Tarzan: youtu.be/RZA6nitNeYw ) Would be amazing! Thanks <3

Ask your Grease Pencil questions to the team!

Hey, regarding grease pencil stroke shapes, can we get a spiral please.

dave3

Doh! forgot to mention I would really looooove a pose brush for GP sculpting. Oh well.

mau.memoli

I have a question for the guys. How have you guys learned to develop for Blender? It seems like you have mostly an artistic background. Unlike the python one, I am struggling a lot finding documentation for the C++ API. Daniel, would you consider to have a development course at pepeland?

samuel.santos

Hey guys! Do you think it's possible to invert the default direction of the Stroke. Right now when the stroke go over it self the line/stroke go behind stroke. The deafult should be the last draw is always on top. (but is good to have the option to change).

cosmobreton

@Pablo, you want GreasePencil to become a standard ? make an export in Unreal4 ! a lot of Netflix television shows are done in UE4 now_and Epic gave money to BlenderFoundation: + Vertex paint , when?

animixel

What about using Grease Pencil on the future VR addon? keep up the good work!

pyercoffin

Hello all!! Thanks for GreasePencil it's really awesome and great fun!) Are there plans to have the drawings be instances/clones instead of individual drawings? Just so that when you need to cycle moments you can reuse and don't have to redo everything (coloring mostly). Or when you do a change on one frame it ripples through it's instanced copies... Hope I'm clear :)

powa.gabriel

Hi! Very thanks for Blender's Grease Pencil! It's very amazing and useful! Do you guys know when would be the option to import SVG as GP objects to Blender? Thanks!!

thehizaro

Hi GP team, thanks to develope this awesome tools for 2D! Can you make "TWEENING TOOLS" like in Flash? It's gonna be more cools I think.

thehizaro

* @thehizaro * this is my 2nd movie trailer (full in 22 minutes) with Grease Pencil Blender 2.8 - youtube.com/watch

mrriddlercz

Will Grease pencil objects become visible behind glass in future updates?

nestorantonio.zam

Is there away to set a hotkey to extend or decrease the exposure of a keyframe? Like for example if you move one keyframe the other ones move or retreat accordingly

pfbourassa

* @nestorantonio.zam * In edit mode, there is Mulitframe editing. With or without falloff. Is that what you mean?

nestorantonio.zam

* @pfbourassa * Yes, I tried moving them with and without falloff, but in a sense you still would need to select all the keyframes you want to move. What I mean is that you move one keyframe foward, and this pushes the other ones on front too. It's like a hotkey to change the space between the keyframes

mr.roberto-12-9

is there something similar to toon boom rigging and composition node system planned?

linkerman-gc

Alright, so I had a few ideas.

I saw before that you can blend colors with vertexcolor for greasepencil. I think it'd be interesting to be able to change the opacity of it in the same way. That way you could blend fills without having them on the same "layer"

Another thing I was wondering, was if we would have stroke profiles at one point, where you could take a GP stroke, and make it it change thickness at different points of it, like strokes in Illustrator?

On the note of Illustrator strokes, would it be possible to implement a curve tool that'd work similarly to the one in Illustrator, wherein you click to place points, and it curves smoothly between points unless you press alt, which makes straight corners.

Essentially like the nurbs curve that doesn't use tangents.

Actually, nurbs for grease pencil?

Zaequan

Hey GP Team and Pablo!

In the future with the new lighting feature in grease pencil, will we be able to cast shadows on grease pencil objects by placing other objects in front of them?

Thanks!

dreamhighanimation

How far you guys went with the VR project ?

Is there going to be a better system for clean up ?

And what about performance ?
