Hi Pablo! In blender the parent works differently than in other 3d programs

Description of the problem of the existing method:

incorrect work of parent

vimeo.com/171228762

Solution: Demeter Dzadik (Mets) solved the problem!

"This can be done with a few lines of Python, just slap this in a text editor and try it:"

import bpy
from mathutils import Matrix

act = bpy.context.active_object
# Parent selected objects to active, empty the inverse matrix and preserve the world matrix.
for o in bpy.context.selected_objects:
    if o==act: continue
    mat_world = o.matrix_world.copy()
    o.parent_type = 'OBJECT'
    o.parent = act
    o.matrix_parent_inverse = Matrix.Identity(4)
    o.matrix_world = mat_world

Is it possible for this to become part of the blender?

Hi Pablo! How are you? How's the rest of the team?

It's been a while already since your last Re-cap video. Will you continue shedding light on the new features of blender? (please, say "yeah, man!")

6
Facu

Hi Pablo! How are you doin?

My question is regarding what workflow do you suggest in this type of work. I have a blend file with a character with cloth and hair simulations. If I link that in another blend file to animate, is there an easy and convenient way to disable all simulations, so they don't slow things down, and then, for rendering enable them all back again? What is the correct workflow to do that? Do I just have to go to the blend file of the character, disable all simulations and save in order to animate? The other thing I can think of is to have two blend files of the character, one with less polygons and without simulations, so when I animate I could use that one, and then replace the linked file with the full version of the character, but I don't know if this is the way to go.

* @Facundo Della Rosa * using alembic caches?

Hello Pablo I hope you're well.

The Blender roadmap has stated that with the release of Blender 3 it will brake compatibility with previous versions. Can you elaborate what can we expect to be discontinued and what sort of new features and changes will be introduced with Blender 3?

Thx!

* @nar.avetis * And in general, where is the journey of 3D and in particular Blender going? Do creatives and handmade things have a future? Keyword: "AI"

¡Hola! Pablo & eventual guest.

I apologize if you already covered this Question.

Back story: A few months ago, pre' pandemic, you talked about speaking with professional studios about Blender, understanding their needs and so on.

Q: Did you get this feedback? Or is it in the back burner for future implementation? Please elaborate on what this would mean for blender.

Love what Blender has become. We all appreciate what your doing for the community and the industry. Even thou some of us don't communicate this as elegantly.

Hi Pablo. Can you tell me the difference between "make" "make full" and "make release"?

Heo Pablo! How r u brother? I am waiting for so long! Please read my comment today :D . Is there any feature coming with Blender like body motion capture and facial capture from Kinect or Webcam? It is a really helpful feature!

Hi. Pablo! Will there be any chance to add virtual acoustics systems or the feature to reflect sounds to objects inside of blender?

I understand blender is not designed for audio editing, but I like the plug-in for software like Unity called "dearVR", performs pretty good sound reflections on objects, such as walls. So I think blender will get even better if you could add some audio support like this, or a system to install these kinds of addons for like the new VR feature's improvements.

Thank you so much for making a chance to ask things, and sorry for asking selfishly questions.

Here's the link to the demo (headphone recommended):

LIKE THIS POST IF AUTODESK IS BETTER THAN BLENDER

Can we get more support for the texture node editor, most of the time it doesn't work at all. Also nurbs needs more support, there's like 2 buttons and the documentation is dry.

not a feature request, but can we get full VR support with multiplayer, like have 5 people working on a blender scene with VR together, creating different models and sculpting all in one file at once.

Thanks a head of time for sending this to the developers! {attachment image}

* @BUBBA * texture node editor is end of life. everything will be done at the shader / material node editor

tuga3d

* @BUBBA * checkout this: github.com/ubisoft/mixer for real time collaboration. It's a blender addon.

hi Pablo, i have a question about blender on steam.

when blender 2.9x comes out of beta it will launch on steam as well or the steam version will always be LTS?

4
bas10olivier

* @Darso * You could always try using this. So you have always the blender version you need.

github.com/DotBow/Blender-Launcher

gusdleon

Hey @pablo maybe you want to read this too

Hey * @Darso * good question this is something that always worry me , the best thing the blender foundation can do for the users using blender via steam its use the branches in Steam, Steam can actually host multiples versions of a single app in this case blender, even beta and alpha versions, like 2.90 and 2.91 and maybe that it's good even for the Blender foundation because can save bandwidth from the blender.org servers, if the people download even the daily builds of blender directly from steam, they (blender) only need to upload it one time, and then steam makes all the hard work.

If you want to stay in 2.83.x you will need to change from branch to the 2.83lts already in steam its super easy, if you opt out of all branches you will continue to stay in the latest stable release of blender.

you can even see all the branches in a third party page called SteamDB, I leave you the link to the branches available in Steam of Blender steamdb.info/app/365670/depots/

but the important thing it's that the blender DEVs dont delete these branches, if they delete them you automatically are switched to the public branch that its as I said before the latest stable release

aisatan.ne

Hi, thanks blender team for all your work, you are the bright light in 2020.

Will we get any new features/changes to camera tracking/vfx part of the blender? maybe better auto mode (it's only "auto detect features" and it's not work very well). everyone happy that this tracker exist (basically it's only free option rn), but no new features/improvements.., I hope to see any changes that make it better.

And the worst part for me: last movie with using trackers was "Tears of Steel" (2012), 8 years ago.. I hope to see more here and new content with it in blender cloud.

Also, blender logo as a sticker for Instagram? ;)

4
christianclavet

* @aisatan.ne * You could check videos made by Ian Hubert that use the trackers with live imagery on youtube:
youtube.com/channel/UCbmxZRQk-X0p-TOxd6PEYJA

But I agree that I would really love to see that type of content appearing on the Blender Cloud.

BlendDiesel

What are propagation steps exactly and how do you use it in sculpt mode? Under brush settings for layer brush. Would like to get more clear information on the brush settings.

Hi Pablo, with the papercut thread on the devtalk site closed I wanted to ask, <b>where should I go to ask for this UX papercut to be fixed?</b> {attachment 2020-08-07-12-15-00gif} In the GIF you can't change multiple settings for the snapping operation when you use the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + Tab, and instead have to press the shortcut everytime you want to change something. <b>The expected behaviour would be able to change one or more setting you want and then click out of the snapping panel to close. What do you think?</b>
<i>(By the way, I hear that GIMP is your favourite photo manipulation program, are you exited for release 3.0? I hear it is coming soon.)</i>

And yet one question. Many people criticize Mantaflow (it is slow and don't give full control). Are there any plans on developing it further? I haven't found in roadmap or on Mantaflow site.

boris.wilson

Hola, Pablo (and guest, maybe)! How are you doing?

It is a good idea to put a tab in the Blender website called "Add-ons", so the Blender Foundation could promote some free and paid known add-ons, even those that wouldn't be able to be implemented in Blender natively because of the size.

{attachment blender_addon_tab_proposalpng}

And then when you click on the tab it leads to a page listing a bunch of community well known add-ons such as Animation Nodes, Sverchok, Sorcar, Hard Ops, Fluent, Botaniq, etc. So new people on Blender could be aware of those as quick as possible and maybe encourage the use of community add-ons.

Any news on the new boolean tools in blender?

Hello! My question. Are there any parts of Blender which could be rewritten/written in Rust to make Blender faster/robust etc? Have developers ever think about it (in theory)? Thanks

Hi pablo! A few days ago I wanted to see how many polygons Blender 2.91 Apha can contain compared to 2.83.0 before crashing. With my config I was able to achieve 79 million verts on the 2.83.0 and 174 million on the 2.91 Alpha. Is it real or just luck? If so, it's mind-blowing. For details : blenderartists.org/t/blender-2-91-alpha-insane-performance/1244693 Either way, you are doing an incredible job!

Hi Guys, So when can we get better import/export pipeline for blender? ie :

  1. Import multiple files at once without have to import them one by one
  2. one import/export button for every supported files or even better just remove import/export but use Open and Save file which also work as Import Export supported files
  3. drag and drop any supported file to viewport and blender just open the import option dialog

Hi, Pablo! I hope you're doing well! 🤗

Why is it no longer possible to scroll horizontally and vertically in the 3D viewport?

2.79 had this feature (using Ctrl+Scroll MMB and Shift+Scroll MMB) and for some reason it was removed in 2.8x without any sort of replacement.

Thanks for your time!

Blender isn't the only free 3D software.

Maya, Houdini, and Zbrush are free, u just need to pirate them. easy

Hola Pablo :* and Guest sar <3 , Have you ever tried that blender port for android? Mobiles phones and tablets are getting faster and faster... what do you think about a port of blender 2.8+ for android/ios?

1
czl15288

* @ton's fan * Apple already got blender running, but I'm guessing you don't want to use their overpriced shit phones, so hopefully Andriod got our back.

2
finalflasher

* @czl15288 * yeah hope we get it for android too

christianclavet

* @ton's fan * I already have Blender running on my Microsoft Surface Pro, and it cost less than Apple... There are tons of PC tablets out there that can already run Blender...

Question: What will you do with Blender on a cell phone?!

1
finalflasher

* @Christian Clavet * if you see... sketchfab on phone browser works very well with decent phone... our phones are no more just usual cellphones... specially with a mode like samsung dex

october18th1961

Hi. In the video editor should there be a warning when you don't select an image sequence or any image to import. Because a bar still loads as if there are images there and you can be scratching your head wondering why nothing is previewing and that could be why.. A suggestion

antoinebaga

Sallut Pablo! A few days ago I did a performance test to compare Blender 2.83 and 2.91 Alpha. I subdivided a monkey up to 2M faces (edit mode) and duplicated it (Shift + D) until blender crashed. Here are the stats I was able to reach (same config and nothing open next to it). Where does this HUGE performance gain come from? {attachment 6c52c9a82145c08fa2691f02e7a40e33494bb1c0png} {attachment 216adc2243eb4954a55a04a36d81c27067303f00png}

Hi all.. i wonder.. why doesn't Blender auto updates the files wich have changed instead of having to download the whole package everytime ? LTS seems like the perfect version for this..

martinellirodrigo

* @martinellirodrigo * no one ?

Hi Pablo! I have a suggestion about the python console.

I couldn't figure out how to create custom editors or workspaces with python, and when I asked around, people said that you couldn't do this. Is this still the case? If so, could blender make this possible?

Thanks in advance.

nurinanissyazwane

will Blender have texture paint features like Substance Painter?

noahsnerdyknowhow

If there is a hypothetical Blender feature that someone thinks would be really useful, is there a place where they can suggest it? Image

florinf

Hello Pablo, Any news about LANPR? Would be great to be able to use it. Thanks.

kaerobattossai

Hi Pablo , do you think we could get an improvement for the particles display in the viewport ? for now it shows the objects scattered but with a huge number of particles it's so slow and blender become unusable ,the only way is to hide the particles but then it shows the objects scattered only in teh render wich is annoying ,also i feel like blender has a hard time with heavy scenes

ckat609

Hey Pablo and Dalai! I was wondering... With the conference now being cancelled, are there any plans to have a virtual conference or at least a live QA with all the team? Maybe even some merch?

ar.gdipesh

hello Pablo.I am from Nepal. I am waiting for asset browser/library to come into blender release soon.What is the progress on that? Thanks

florinf

Pablo, please do the re-cap videos. They're great and easy to follow all the changes. Thanks! Once a week?

melbnm

Hey Pablo! Do you have any tips for increasing fps in animations

telpnon

hi Pablo your profile pic look like external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/

Daniel

first time here is there a way of integrate sun position responsive with the new sky nishita, like luxcorerender have? i'have been testing luxcore this week tanks to @bone-studio recomendation for archviz. also is there some way to include cache save for archviz animation in cycles? luxcore makes something like that light cache and photon... blender have everithing to be the best archviz software... the main problems are we the architects... hardly have time parallel to design and management, the reason why many people use "paid" alternatives is becouse of the included object library (the included @blenderkit is an excellent start) by giving the option to download libraries as optinonal download and some kind of scatter like twinmotion for placing vegetation, that should be a life changer... all this because architects are looking for quick results after all time dedicated to design, that meke us "lazy" to learn all needed to use blender for archviz level expected from the clients

i'v been using blender for a few years, learning blender and english so i can leave "that demonic company that we learn in college for cad drawings"

graphicadam

Will blender ever add all of it's features into the industrial keys, it's dishearting that we keep leaving out features?

sayamtalreja918

Hi pablo which os you use

luciano.petrigh

Hi Pablo, when using the graph editor, I am having problems tweaking the curves of all axis (on the same frame probably) I need to choose each axis curve, one by one, and tweak it instead of choosing three axis and tweak it in one shot (the Maya VS Blender youtuber even mentioned it)... or maybe I am doing it wrong. Thank you

linktros

Also, when is touch and or gesture support coming to blender? Will they be compatible with like separate finger sensitivity? AKA tapping 2 fingers does one action. Tapping 3 fingers do another action. 4 does another action, so on and so forth.

linktros

Could there be a possible left-hand version or option for blender? I like to navigate via the navigation widgets but they are on the right side which makes them a bit cumbersome. Is it possible to flip the positions of the tools and the navigation widgets?

Daniel

hello pablo s

telpnon

hi Pablo how blender 2.83 is better than 2.8

christianclavet

* @telpnon * I have 2 quick answers for that: Improved features and better stability.

You can check there what has been improved in 2.83:
blender.org/download/releases/2-83/

shahzadshaikhnl

Why is my video in backwards? I render it in video seq, and it comes backwards out.

TimTom

Hey Pablo. What happened to the videos that you were going to make about new features in Blender? I feel like having those videos come out regularly would help to reduce the number of feature requests in these comments instead of questions.

stevemillerband

hi Pablo!

thankyou so much for doing this show!

was hoping you could elaborate on the depth of field plans in the eevee 2.91 roadmap: Image

my only real issue with the current implementation is background bleed, especially on darker foreground elements. hoping eevee can get edge filtering closer to the compositor defocus node, as shown in the comparison here: Image Image

MiguelP

Hi Pablo! Hi Potential Guest!

It's pretty hard to try and think of a question for the hyper-fast developing Blender these days. One thing that I can't get out of my mind, however, is, with millions of blender users, "we can estimate between 1 to 3 million Blender users out there( blender.org/press/blender-by-the-numbers-2019/ .)", WHERE are these people?

Is there a way that we can point these millions of users that (are not already part of the community) to the blender community. I, myself didn't find it hard to discover the massive and lovely community of blender.

The upside of introducing these unaware users to the extensive community is we can better improve bug reports with, more diverse inputs in future feature suggestions, more helping hands in general for forums at BlenderArtist, AND more engagement in the live stream. In my opinion, these could be all achieved by simply(IDK how simple it is, I'm not a developer) putting the links of the community pages at Blender's splash screen.

alenrqz21

Hi Pablo, any plan to include the project to make Cycles in a spectral renderer?

alenrqz21

Hi Pablo, any plan to accept environment variables to specify the paths for the addons? so we don't rely on a specific folder, this would help a lot in the pipeline inside the studios.

alenrqz21

Is Blender aligned with the VFX reference platform? For sure a little ahead with Python but what about the other packages? vfxplatform.com/
