Preselection highlight for the Transform Gizmos.

Something similar to Maya, it's much easier & accurate to see which axes you're going to grab instead of Blender's same colors but with different opacity, you can pick whatever default color( orange, yellow,velevt..) Also can we have an option to make the rotate axes thicker with a wider hotspot, i find it hard to grab the right axis and always hitting the trackball rotation, just for this tool not the others.

image Thanks.

Yes please, also I'd like to bring back some of the ancient 2.49 functionality, like having the initial porition visible. Image There's a proposal on this same page as well... blender.community/c/rightclickselect/QBdbbc/

This is now done!! Technically the OP is also working althought it just changes to a brighter shade.

+1
Also, axes on rotation gizmo are too damn small. I spend a huge amount of time trying to rotate on one axis but misclik on the trackball area and forced to ctrl Z and retry again. Never got that issue on Maya.

* @-L0Lock- * , so you would like the rotation handles to be thicker , correct? Not larger in radius?

I can't believe this proposal has been ignored for three years. Blender seems to always focus on updating those exciting major features while neglecting the small improvements that enhance the user experience. Sigh... This was my proposal from some time ago, and what we should be looking for is the same functionality. blender.community/c/rightclickselect/39Qr/

Yes. I was just thinking of this. Every 3D software does this. I think Blender should have this too.

Darknoodles

I personnally never use gizmos, but the highlight might be a bit brighter yeah.

Krank_H Author

* @Darknoodles * I believe the highlighting is already set 100% that's why i am asking for a different color so we don't have to make one very low & the other very high, they could both (the axes & the highlighting) be 100% but just different colors, this is how most of the 3d softwares have done it including game engines like unreal, unity..., it' just Blender that does these little things differently from the norm.

jeric_synergy

* @Krank_H * , I think it's more of an alpha/transparency effect. Highlight=more opaque. If they increased the difference, it'd be more noticable.

FWIW, I find it perfectly visible. But if a %age of people find it hard to discern, it should be addressable, even if deep within the themes (and for all I know, it already is).

I believe some people would also like access to the line width controls, which again might be buried deep within the themes controls.

adamsanim8

* @jeric_synergy * No, transparency would make it even worse .. for people who don't use the gizmo might seem fine but as an Animator i would rather have a different theme colour to tweak instead of reducing the opacity. FYI they already do that with some tools like the shear tool it has a different highlighting colour for the axes.

Blender gizmos lack many quality of life features including line width control, sensitivity, resizable hotkeys...etc luckly one of the Devs told me that they could make them better and polished , so fingers crossed will see that in the upcmoing versions.

jeric_synergy

* @adamsanim8 * I'm not suggesting transparency, I'm saying I think that's what they're currently using , vs literal color swapping.

But of course, if they add color controls they could throw in alpha changing at the same time and please everybody.

I certainly agree that line width should be #1 on the To-Do list -- that's by far the biggest challenge for vision and (nimbleness? agility?) challenged users, and that cohort includes everybody who's getting a bit old. Like me.

I'm not sure what resizable hotkey would be-- if my keyboards starts morphing I'mma hitting rehab for sure.

(Which, btw, is why is >said< "I think" in the original comment. >|^( )

adamsanim8

* @jeric_synergy * blender.community/c/rightclickselect/67fbbc/ this is what i mean by resizable hotkeys, the possibility to resize the gizmos using hotkeys directly from the 3d/2d view.

Check my Gizmo Size Addon :D

reanimate

I'm not sure they going to add this though. As far as i know blender are designed to have an accurate selection for everything (except it was bugged), and afaik they are against pre highlighting stuff. Not sure if that policy are changed or not

Krank_H Author

* @reanimate * Unlike 2.7 if you look closely in 2.8 there is already pre highlighting when you hover over the gizmos, not very noticeable so it's just needs to be a different color, that's it.

jeric_synergy

* @Krank_H * , they've got some eagle-eyed developers over there. Seriously, some of the visual cues are TOO subtle, like the "negative axis" indicator --you can barely see it.

When they design UIs, they might try putting on a dirty pair of sunglasses to check contrast and visibility -- not everyone is 22 with incredible vision and huge state-of-the-art monitors.

Mac developers-- same way: "Yeah, let's use 3pt type! I can see it fine!"

2
reanimate

* @jeric_synergy * Interesting, that might be the case then, it's too subtle because honestly i never notice it.

jeric_synergy

* @reanimate * You're not seeing the gizmo change either?

While I can see it, if for some people it is a problem, IT IS A PROBLEM. Even if it's only a small percentage.

Perhaps the easy fix is a "High Contrast Theme" which cranks up those differences.

Lauloque

* @jeric_synergy * something that basic shouldn't require a different high contrast theme to be noticeable by most people. It should be out of the box.

* @-L0Lock- * , but I think most people CAN notice it.
