Hotkey option for flipping faces

Currently, I don't see a direct hotkey slot option for flipping the direction of selected faces.

I realize there's "Recalculate Outside" but it would be nice if the specific Flip normals command had the option of being assigned a hotkey instead of having to do the Alt N and select [Flip] two-step.

Do you use a custom keymap or something? ⎇ Alt N brings the Normals Menu:

From there you can Right 🖱️ the Flip operator and assign a shortcut. You can do the same by opening the Operator Search with F3 and searching the Flip Normals operator:

Can I ask how you added the image and icons of the keyboard buttons to your comment?

Images are simply added via markdown: ![description](image.url) .

For the keyboard buttons, RCS uses a custom markdown [[key]] to mark things are buttons, and I use unicodes and emojies as icons. I made a userscript to make this automatically when pressing ⎈ Ctrl Y on a selection of text:

Holy smokes. Thank-you! Much appreciated.

Also good to note that, when there's an operator you would like to have a shortcut for but with a different setting, you can set the option in the Keymap editor. Example for Select Mirror, by default it changes the selection. In my animation usage, I also need it to extend the selection instead. So I made my own new entry in Pose Mode:

(I also changed the hotkey because... who enjoys pressing ⎈ Ctrl ⇧ Shift M ?)

Seeing as I've been informed that this is indeed possible, perhaps my request could be changed to a friendly alert that lets you know that you're about to assign a keyboard shortcut that's already taken by something else.

Changing an already posted proposal to something completely different doesn't work well here, as votes and discusssions already happened. If you want to propose something else, you should make a new proposal.

Although, in this case, it's been proposed already (with someone mentioning an addon in the comments), so you can just go there and upvote/like/comment: The key combination has been is already used! — Right-Click Select

What would be nice is for you to edit this proposal to change its status as Done.
