Remove ColorRamp!

What did you say!?

Just give me a second. The "ColorRamp" is certainly one of the most used nodes in Blender but I think we need to fundamentally change its structure by adding a new variable type.

The gradient!

Fig3Input.jpg You adjust this new variable like a color ramp with left click.

capture20220326123220901.png The big advantage of this new idea is the group nodes, you can now edit gradients directly on the inputs. Fig4.png

Fig6.png Now I'm happy to present you the new ColorRamp! Fig2.png Of course this does not change the method of using it! example.jpg Another example

example2.jpg It seems to me that the advantages of this system are insufficient to justify such an addition, but I think that Blender is intended to be the most elegant and easiest to use software and the new "TextureNode" system will benefit greatly.

Friendly, please excuse my English

Nicolas.

For the Gradient input node, the UI widget should be visible without needing an extra click. This would make it consistent with how RGB color is treated. (The RGB input node shows a widget, but everywhere else you have to click the color box for the widget show up.)

There has been many requests to be able to edit color ramps' sliders values and color with data inputs, how would you combine that with your proposal?

With this method you don't need to add inputs, you just left click and adjust your gradient. And the previous suggestions are possible with cascading MapRange.

This new approach solves all proposals at the same time, it is more intuitive.

I don't think this proposal solves the same issue as those other proposals.

@-L0Lock- I think it would be pretty simple to combine them. The color sliders would only need to be added to the gradient node proposed in image 2. Then, the gradient could be passed from from there to other nodes that accept gradients as inputs.

Yes, I think it's better! I have edited the post.

I think you missed my point:
People are requesting inputs to be able to control the color ramps using nodes.

One of the main purpose of nodes is specifically to be able to control and pass data. And the flaw of both the current color ramp and the hereby proposed revamp are that the data creating the ramps is not exposed, and so not controllable by nodes.

I see! I added the Gradient Adjust on post
