crtl+select in the outliner
In edit mode you can select the shortest path between two vertices via selecting the first one and then crtl+selecting the second one. Similar to this behaviour you should be able to select every single entry inbetween 2 entries in the outliner.

Please stop inventing 100 years ago already been invented bicycle. There are standart for all apps keys - Shift for selecting/deselecting multiple items, Ctrl - same for single items. It work same in all apps but for Blender it need to suggest something else because Blender is so speciall...
The problem is that no one work on this Outliner selections at all. I wrote long suggestion here for Outliner half of year ago, it get lot of votes and for today things is the same. Just no one care.
* @forestgumpovu4 * No this is not the case. Now the developers are active. In blender 2.8 a lot of improvements already have made in all areas. I also have made many improvement in this area. e.g. blender.community/c/rightclickselect/MYcbbc/ blender.community/c/rightclickselect/ZYcbbc/ blender.community/c/rightclickselect/8Ycbbc/ blender.community/c/rightclickselect/fWcbbc/
I only have to release the patch for checking...
These are only some of them... We only need better idea!!!
* @aqib.maqbool444 * Yes yes. Select items by arrows it's good. But when you have to work in scene with hundreds of objects it doesn't help at all. It need just to make it work same as in all other software.
For now the only instrument for multiple selection in Outlinet is this useless Box Selection. Try to work with this in any huge scene. And this Box Selection is same another result of trying to invent bicycle when this bicycle was already invented....
Here is my one suggestion and so what. Nothing from here is implemented. I see only " this buttons changes ", " this highlights improwements " but nothing global what's really necessary.
* @forestgumpovu4 * On this matter you've proposed exactly the same but with shift and crtl swapped out. The problem with that is that it's consistent with other apps, but not with Blender itself. ie. your version should be implemented in the industry compatible keymap, but not in the default keymap. That being said I agree with your sentiment + the rest of the proposal
* @alf * The problem with that is that it's consistent with other apps, but not with Blender itself..........
All this superspecial only Blender ways of jedi is one of key reasons why people not use Blender as much as it can be. Because they have 10 software and OS where e.g Outliner work same with object or layers and one whe all upside down without any resonable reasons... I work with Blender in main work one year but all my teammates still look at Blender as if it some alien technology.
* @forestgumpovu4 * I don't think there's a problem with Blender being consistent with itself. I use Maya far more often than I'd like to... and it's outliner is backwards from viewport. Shift click to add in viewport, ctrl-click to add in outliner. It's especially vexing that the outliner is much more necessary in Maya.
What I'm saying is, it's more important for it to be consistent internally than with other softwares. I like Blender because it's portable. I use it on Mac, PC, and Linux! Each of them is a little different, but Blender's always the same.
* @forestgumpovu4 * Yeah! but drop & drops make a big flow. I this it is very small improvement but may helps in some situations. I also implemented
Shift + Mouse ClicktoSelect range of selection. I thinks it is also very small like inventing a bycecle???* @alf * thanks!!!
* @forestgumpovu4 * Yes. I agreed with you! When i learn blender very first time. I also have find problem. But after some time, it becomes second nature and now it not feels...

Thanks to the comment of forestgumpovu4, I saw 3 suggestions on the same thing: Outliner management rework, Shift & Ctrl click for selection in Outliner, and this post. Between the 3 now would add 100 votes. Reviewing the selection methods would make many people happy :)

@alf if you can please details about you idea. I can't understand. May be some snapshots or by any means...
* @aqib.maqbool444 * check this suggestion
I like the idea. I'm not sure if I think it should follow the same scheme as the file selector (which uses box select, B key). I'm not saying I like how it's done in file selector better, just that they should be consistent.
* @Josephbburg * box selector already exists in the outliner and it's cumbersome to use if your list needs to be scrolled
* @alf * Yeah, I'm not saying that's good. But it needs to be consistent, so maybe both need to change. Consistency is more important than anything else, though.
