Export Preferences - Selected Only
This has been proposed over the years in a variety of ways. But I believe this is the correct way to handle the problem.
Suggestion: Make "Export Selected Only" as default an option in the Blender Preferences. This setting will then be the default for all exporters.
Currently the default export is export everything in the scene, and this has caused endless headaches for blender users. Users should not have to edit a .py file to make this work.

Yes please!! .. I would be happy if those settings could be save with the Startup File.
AFAIK, as of today every exporter is an addon independent from each other, so I'm not sure ther is a way to easily implement a global setting on Blender's side.
That being said, I think it is planned to unify the individual import/exporters into one tool, so I guess it will be a thing once that is done.
It seems that there is nothing difficult to create a property in the blender settings, and that it referred to addons. Although, it is better that each addon has its own settings. Generally check the box should be "selected" by default, I usually change the default value myself in the code, never had the need to export everything from blender, I always export what is selected
